Big Idea:

“We may not be able to change the situation we’re in, but we can change the way we talk about it”

Psalm 34:1-3 NLT

I will praise the Lord at all times.
    I will constantly speak his praises.
I will boast only in the Lord;
    let all who are helpless take heart.
Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness;
    let us exalt his name together.

Psalm 34:1

“I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak His praises.”

Psalm 34:2

“I will boast only in the Lord; let all who are helpless take heart”

NIV- “Let all who are afflicted hear and rejoice”

“We all have an emotional climate we carry around with us. It follows us around, comes home with us, tags along in our meetings and interactions and often, we’re the only one’s unaware of the climate we bring. And as a result, it unknowingly affects our relationships at home, work and beyond. “ – Jeff Henderson

For an emotional climate change…

1. of how your words are affecting others

“What’s it like to be on the other side of me?”

Ephesians 4:31-32 NLT

31 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. 32 Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ Jesus has forgiven you.”

2. yourself with the right voices

1 Samuel 22:1-2 NLT

1 “ So David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. Soon his brothers and all his relatives joined him there. 2 Then others began coming-men who were in trouble or in debt or who were just discontented-until David was the captain of about 400 men.”

3. the narrative of the story you are telling

Book RecommendationCrucial Conversations: Tools for talking when the stakes are High by  Kerry PattersonJoseph GrennyRon McMillan, and Al Switzler.

Psalm 34:3 NLT

“Come, let us tell of the Lord’s greatness; LET US exalt His name together.”

For an emotional climate change…

1. Be aware of how your words are affecting others

2. Surround yourself with the right voices

3. Change the narrative of the story you are telling

We may not be able to change the situation we’re in, but we can change the way we talk about it!
