STAND FIRM: Part 2
False Prophets
March 20 & 21, 2021

2 Peter 2:1-2 NLT    But there were also false prophets in Israel, just as
there will be false teachers among you. They will cleverly teach destructive
heresies and even deny the Master who bought them. In this way, they will bring sudden destruction on themselves.  2  Many will follow their evil teaching and shameful immorality. And because of these teachers, the way of truth will be slandered.

1. We against false teaching by always judging according to
the Word of God.

1 Thessalonians 5:19-22 NLT Do not stifle the Holy Spirit.  20  Do not scoff at prophecies, 21  but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. 22  Stay away from every kind of evil.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 NLT All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.  17  God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

2 Peter 2:3 NLT In their greed they will make up clever lies to get hold of
your money. But God condemned them long ago, and their destruction will
not be delayed.

2. Be cautious when is always the focus of their message.

2 Peter 2:4 NLT For God did not spare even the angels who sinned. He threw them into hell, in gloomy pits of darkness, where they are being held until the day of judgment.

2 Peter 2:5 NLT And God did not spare the ancient world—except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the world of God’s righteous judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood.

3. Judgment day is coming; But in God’s , not ours.

2 Peter 3:9 NLT   The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

Psalm 103:8 NLT The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
2 Peter 2:6-8 NLT   Later, God condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and turned them into heaps of ashes. He made them an example of what will happen to ungodly people.  7  But God also rescued Lot out of Sodom because he was a righteous man who was sick of the shameful immorality of the wicked people around him.  8  Yes, Lot was a righteous man who was tormented in his soul by the
wickedness he saw and heard day after day.

2 Peter 2:9 NLT So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue godly people from their trials, even while keeping the wicked under punishment until the day of final judgment.

4. The will be rescued and saved from destruction.

2 Corinthians 5:21 NLT For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

Romans 5:1-2 NLT Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.  2  Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward
to sharing God’s glory.

2 Peter 2:10-14 NLT He is especially hard on those who follow their own twisted sexual desire, and who despise authority. These people are proud and arrogant, daring even to scoff at supernatural beings without so much as trembling.  11  But the angels, who are far greater in power and strength, do not dare to bring from the Lord a charge of blasphemy against those supernatural beings. 12  These false teachers are like unthinking animals, creatures of instinct, born to be caught and destroyed. They scoff at things they do not understand, and like animals, they will be destroyed.  13  Their destruction is their reward for the harm they have done. They love to indulge in evil pleasures in broad daylight. They are a disgrace and a stain among you. They delight in deception even as they eat with you in your fellowship meals.  14  They commit adultery with their eyes.

Matthew 5:28 NLT (Jesus said) But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Job 31:1 NLT “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman.”

Proverbs 27:20 NLT Just as Death and Destruction are never satisfied, so human desire is never satisfied.

5. We must not overlook obvious signs of .

2 Peter 2:15 NLT They have wandered off the right road and followed the footsteps of Balaam son of Beor, who loved to earn money by doing wrong.  16  But Balaam was stopped from his mad course when his donkey rebuked him with a human voice.

6. The drive for will take us off course.

1 Timothy 6:10 NLT For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.

2 Timothy 4:3 NLT For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

2 Peter 2:17-19 NLT These people are as useless as dried-up springs or as mist blown away by the wind. They are doomed to blackest darkness.  18  They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception.  19  They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.

7. Our true is the one we obey.

Many people have invited Jesus to follow when we are to be following Jesus.

Many Christians have but fail to !

2 Peter 2:20-22 NLT And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. 21  It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life.  22  They prove the truth of this proverb: “A dog returns to its vomit.” And another says, “A washed pig returns to the mud.”

Proverbs 26:11 NLT As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness.

Salvation is available to all, but only provided upon personal

Romans 10:9-10 NLT If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10  For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

Ezekiel 36:26-27 NLT And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.  27  And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.

2 Corinthians 5:17 AMP Therefore if anyone is in Christ [that is, grafted in, joined to Him by faith in Him as Savior], he is a new creature [reborn and renewed by the Holy Spirit]; the old things [the previous moral and spiritual condition] have passed away. Behold, new things have come [because spiritual awakening brings a new life].

1 John 3:4-10 NLT Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God.  5  And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him.  6  Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is. 7  Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous.  8  But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.  9  Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.  10  So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.
