The Blessed Life: A Journey Through Beatitudes

Part 2 – I Long for Change

Matthew 5:4

Blessed are those who mourn,

    for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4

Three kinds of mourning you could experience in life:

  • over the loss of someone you love dearly.
  • is yearning for something that God has not given you.

So Ahab went home, sullen and angry because Naboth the Jezreelite had said, “I will not give you the inheritance of my ancestors.” He lay on his bed sulking and refused to eat. 1 Kings 21:4

  • is sorrow over our sins toward God.

10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, 2 Corinthians 7:10a

Seek the Lord while he may be found;

    call on him while he is near.

Let the wicked forsake their ways

    and the unrighteous their thoughts.

Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them,

    and to our God, for he will freely pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7

For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has been set free from sin. Romans 6:6-7

19 …“Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” 2 Timothy 2:19b

Silver bullet: of your sin.

  • Start by asking: “What has this sin has cost ?”
  • Then Ask: “What has this sin cost ?”
  • Finally, Ask:What did this sin cost ?”

When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.” Matthew 27:3-4

15 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 1 Timothy 1:15-16

5) Spiritual mourning happens at the .

6) Spiritual mourning will lead you to .

Seek the Lord while he may be found;

    call on him while he is near.

Let the wicked forsake their ways

    and the unrighteous their thoughts.

Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them,

    and to our God, for he will freely pardon. Isaiah 55:6-7

19 Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” 2 Timothy 2:19
