Investing our Lives in Next Generation

Paul and Timothy

Next UP -Part 2 of 3

A. Mentorship, at its best, is :

  1. Paul knew the most important thing Timothy needed was the Gospel :

1. Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel.

(2 Timothy 2:8)

  1. So be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or of me, his prisoner. Rather, with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God.

(2 Timothy 1:8)

  1. the good fight of the faith. Take of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. (1 Timothy 6:12).

  1. You then, my son, in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. (2 Timothy 2:1)
  2. Paul recognizes his own need for the :

I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that he considered me trustworthy, appointing me to his service.  Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would   believe in him and receive eternal life.  Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen. (1 Timothy 1: 12-17)

  1. Mentorship should be and .

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it,  and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:14–16)

You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, persecutions, sufferings…

(2 Timothy 3:10-11a)

  1. Mentorship should be and .
  2. Mentorship should where people are and encourage them

A mentee must:

Be   the Flame

(2 Timothy 1:6)

Be   the pattern

(2 Timothy 1:13)

Be   be ashamed

  (2  Timothy 1:7)
