COMMUNICATING IN LOVE

Main Text: John 4:1–42

Jesus shows us how to communicate love through our:

  1. Nonverbal Communication (actions/body language)
  2. Verbal Communication (spoken words)
  3. Visual Communication (what people see/perceive)
  4. Written Communication (God’s Word)

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”                                                  Romans 10:17

  • My relationship with Christ grows when I engage with His Word.
  1. Nonverbal Communication — Love Through Action

“Now he had to go through Samaria.”                            John 4:4

  • Jesus crossed barriers and discomfort to show love.
  • Love is often communicated before a word is spoken.
  • We are called to be willingly uncomfortable to show Christ’s love.
  1. Verbal Communication — Love Through Words

“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again,
but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.
Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”               John 4:13–14

  • The world offers temporary satisfaction.
  • Jesus offers living water.

“You are right… you have had five husbands…What you have said is quite true.”                                   John 4:17-18

  • Jesus speaks truth to heal, not to shame.
  • Our words should restore, not tear down.
  1. Visual Communication — Changing Perspective

“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth… God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”          John 4:23–24

  • Worship is about the heart, not the location.
  • Our lives should visually reflect Christ.

            4. Written Communication – Transformation Produces Witness to God’s Word

“Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, ‘Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Messiah?’”                                  John 4:28–29

  • Encounter with Jesus leads to bold witness.
  • We are called to share our testimony and Scripture.

“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”          Romans 12:2

  • God renews our minds through His Word so that our lives communicate His love in every interaction.
