FEASTING ON THE WORD Part 4

August 31, 2025

And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, “The LORD [Yahweh], the LORD [Yahweh], the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin…(Exodus 34:6-7)

– no clear English equivalent, often “unfailing love” “steadfast love” “covenant loyalty”

–  “truth,” connected to the word “amen”

God’s love is his

God’s faithfulness is his

I will maintain my love to him forever, and my covenant with him will never fail. but I will not take my love from him,  nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. (Psalm 89:28,33)

: a hybrid between a promise and a legal contract, relational, like marriage

I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. (Genesis 12:2)

When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces. On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram (Genesis 15:17-18)

Jesus is [Yahweh] in flesh and blood… but he’s also in flesh and blood.

Hope: is the absolute expectation of coming good based on the character of God

if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.  (2 Timothy 2:13)

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

God’s is that he will bless you, so you can turn around and do the same for others.

Faithfulness is long in the same direction in an age of instant
