“Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah saying, ‘May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow, I do not make your life like one of them.’” 1 Kings 19:2
Four Causes of Depression:
- We focus on our rather than .
“Elijah was afraid. He ran for his life… He came to a broom tree, sat under it, prayed that he might die. I have had enough.” 1 Kings 19:3-4a
- We ourselves to others.
“…Take my life. I’m no better than my ancestors.” 1 Kings 19:4b
“…When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.” 2 Corinthians 10:12
- We for negative events that are not our fault.
“Lord, I have been very zealous for the Lord God almighty. The Israelites have rejected Your covenant and broken down Your altars and put Your prophets to death with a sword.” 1 Kings 19:10a
- We the negative.
“I am the only one left and now they’re trying to kill me too.” 1 Kings 19:10b
“Yet I reserved seven thousand in Israel–all whose knees have not bowed down.” 1 Kings 19:18a
GOD’S REMEDY FOR DEPRESSION
- Take care of your needs.
“Then Elijah lay down under the tree and he fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat.’ He looked around and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals and a jar of water. He ate and he drank and he lay down again. Then the angel of the Lord came a second time and touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat again. The journey is too much for you.’ So he got up and he ate and he drank and he was strengthened by the food.” 1 Kings 19:5-8a
- Don’t your frustrations, tell them to God.
“Then Elijah went into a cave and he spent the night and the word of the Lord came to him, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’ He replied, ‘I’ve been zealous for the Lord God almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down the altars, put all your prophets to death by the sword. I’m the only one left and now they’re trying to kill me too.’” 1 Kings 19:9-10
- Get a fresh of God in your life.
“The Lord said to Elijah, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.’ Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountain apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord wasn’t in the earthquake either. And after the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord wasn’t in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper and when Elijah heard it, he put his cloak over his face. And he went out and he stood in the mouth of the cave.” 1 Kings 19:11 -13a

“The Lord came to Elijah and said, ‘Go back the way you came and go to the desert of Damascus.” 1 Kings 19:15a
