Esther 1:1-20

Big Idea: Everybody is created for a mission. Our lives require a mission larger than ourselves. If we don’t embrace our true mission, we all have a shadow mission we fall for.

  1. What’s my shadow mission?

“God created human beings; he created them godlike, God blessed them: ‘Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge! Be responsible for fish in the sea and birds in the air, for every living thing that moves on the face of Earth.’” Genesis 1:28 (MSG)

Mission of Vineyard Church:

Our mission is to be a contemporary extension of the Good News of Jesus Christ to our world and help people find and fulfill God’s purpose in their lives.

“In the middle of the garden were the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.”Genesis 2:9 (NIV)

Tree of Life: a relationship with God based on grace, freedom, and life

Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil: a relationship with God based on legalism, rules, and self-effort.

  1. How do you discern your mission?

If you’re leading and you don’t know what your shadow mission is, you’re likely the only one who doesn’t know.

  1. What’s the shadow mission of your family, work, or ministry?

“If you are the Son of God, turn these stones into bread.”  Matthew 4:3 (NIV)

“‘If you are the Son of God,’ he said, ‘throw yourself down. For it is written: “He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’’”      Matthew 4:6 (NIV)

“All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”  Matthew 4:9 (NIV)

“My Father, if there is any way you can deliver me from this suffering, please take it from me. Yet what I want is not important, for I only desire to fulfill your plan for me.  Matthew 26:39 (TPT)

“At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.”                              Mark 15:33 (NIV)
