Don’t Let Fear Ruin Your Relationships // It’s All About Who You Know [Part 2]

Two types of a marriage culture:
1. Control and Fear.
2. Freedom and Trust.

“We will remain strong and always sincere in our love as we express the truth.” Ephesians 4:15 (TPT)

WHAT DOES FEAR DO TO MY RELATIONSHIPS?

1. When I’m afraid of my faults, I become .

“God asked, ‘Did you eat…what I told you not to eat?’ Adam answered, ‘The woman you put here with me gave me the fruit and I ate it.’ …She replied, ‘The snake tricked me into eating it.’” Genesis 3:12-13 (GN)

“If we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth.” 1 John 1:8 (LB)

2. When I’m afraid of my feelings, I become .

“God called to Adam, ‘Why are you hiding?’ Adam answered, ‘…I was afraid and hid from you because I was naked.’” Genesis 3:9-10 (LB/GN)

THREE FEELINGS THAT FRIGHTEN US:

• feelings.

“Make sure no one lives with a root of bitterness sprouting within them which will only cause trouble and poison the hearts of many.” Hebrews 12:15 (TPT)

• feelings.

“But don’t let the passion of your emotions lead you to sin! Don’t let your anger control you.” Ephesians 4:26 (TPT)

• feelings.

“And as they ate it, suddenly they became aware of their nakedness, and were embarrassed. So they strung fig leaves together to cover themselves around the hips.” Genesis 3:7 (LB)

3. When I’m afraid of losing my freedom, I become .

“You will desire your husband; but rather than a companion, He will be the dominant partner.” Genesis 3:16 (VO)

WHAT’S THE ANTIDOTE?

1. Be honest with yourself.

“A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance.”  Proverbs 28:13 (LB)

2. Be honest to God.

“The spirit God breathed into man is like a living lamp, a shining light searching into the innermost chamber of our being.” Proverbs 20:27 (TPT)

3. Be honest with your mate.

“Confess and acknowledge how you have offended one another and then pray for one another to be instantly healed.” James 5:16 (TPT)

“Fully-developed love expels every particle of fear, for fear always contains some of the torture of feeling guilty.” 1 John 4:18 (Ph)
