Facing Your Future

“Since no man knows the future, who can tell him what is to come?” Ecclesiastes 8:7  

THREE MISTAKES TO AVOID (James 4:13-17)  

First mistake: Planning without God. 

“Now listen you who say ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make money.’” James 4:13  

“Instead you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’”   James 4:15  

Second mistake: Presuming about tomorrow. 

“Why you don’t even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. As it is you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil.” James 4:14, 16  

“Don’t boast about tomorrow, for you don’t know what a day may bring forth.” Proverbs 27:1   

Third mistake: Putting off doing what’s right. 

“Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.”  James 4:17  

“We can be sure we know Christ if we obey His commands. The one who says, ‘I know Him’ but doesn’t do what He commands is a liar.” 1 John 2:3-4  

When Facing An Impossible Assignment:

1. Be Confident In Your Dream.

“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; Do not turn from it to the right or to the left that you may be successful wherever you go. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” Joshua 1:7-8

“After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ aide: ‘Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you and all these people get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them – to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your feet, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates – all the Hittite country – to the Great Sea on the west.” Joshua 1:1-4   

2. Be Committed To Your Decisions.

“…do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua l:9b  

“Joshua told the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.’” Joshua 3:5   

3. Be Conscious Of God’s Dependability. 

“No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses so I will be with you.” Joshua 1:5a   

“…for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9b
