Let’s Talk About It – Week Two: “Let’s talk about Finances”

The big idea: We all face struggles of various kinds in life and God’s Word gives us practical guidance on how to overcome those struggles.

 

1. We are , not

The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;  Psalm 24:1

But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.  Deuteronomy 8:18

2.  Your reveals your

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Matthew 6:21

No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Matthew 6:24

So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? Luke 16:11

3. We are called to be 

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. Luke 12:48b

Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is life indeed.  1 Timothy 6:17-21

 

What do we need to do to be good stewards?

1. Create a

For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost to see if he has enough to complete it?  Luke 14:28

The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. Proverbs 21:5

2. Be

Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Malachi 3:10

Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7

“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.  Matthew 23:23

3. You should &

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender. Proverbs 22:7

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8

4. & wisely

Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it. Proverbs 13:11

She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. Proverbs 31:16

5. Plan

Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.  1 Timothy 5:8

A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children, but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. Proverbs 13:22
