Habits of High-Level Jesus Followers

Habit #4: Serving Others

John 13, 1 Corinthians 12

Habit #3: Develop a of

Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39

why Serving is Significant!

1.God me to Serve

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:8-10

2.Jesus me to Serve

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35

`

Serving demonstrates I’m

“Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.  John 13:12-15

Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:43-45

Serving comes with

Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. John 13:17

3.God me to Serve

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.  1 Peter 4:10

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.  For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.  Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many. 1 Corinthians 12:12-14

But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 1 Corinthians 12:18

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

1 Corinthians 12:27

  3. Select someone in a key area of my life to serve (family, work, neighbor, community, etc…)
  4. Start serving somewhere in God’s church
  5. Start serving somewhere in the community
  6. Step into a new church ministry with greater responsibility
  7. Always remember who I’m really Serving
