A Tale of Two Kings

New King, New Era, Same God!

2 Samuel 5

After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ Acts 13:22

Habits of a person after God’s Heart

1. They God’s Promises and on His Timing

David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned over all Israel and Judah thirty-three years. Vs. 4-5

2. They aren’t

After he left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him. These are the names of the children born to him there:

Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Eliada and Eliphelet. Vs. 13-16

3. They God making decisions

Now the Philistines had come and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; so David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I go and attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hands?” The Lord answered him, “Go, for I will surely deliver the Philistines into your hands.”

Vs. 18-20

Ask When I what to do and when I think !

Once more the Philistines came up and spread out in the Valley of Rephaim; so David inquired of the Lord, and he answered, “Do not go straight up, but circle around behind them and attack them in front of the poplar trees.  Vs. 22-23

4. They when God’s speaks

So David did as the Lord commanded him, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer. Vs. 25

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt,

because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. James 1:5-8

5. They use God’s to others

Then David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel and had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel. Vs. 12
