Just Let It Go

William Laws

Hebrews 12:1-3

1.SURROUNDED BY A HUGE CLOUD OF WITNESSES OF A LIFE OF FAITH.

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith. By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. Hebrews 11:7-8

2.THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS SYMBOLIC IN SCRIPTURE TO RUNNING A RACE.

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”] Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. Philippians 2:14-16

3.BELIEVERS HAVE TO CAST ASIDE EVERY WEIGHT SO THEY CAN RUN.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, Hebrews 12:1

4.THE SECRET WEIGHT THE SIN WITHIN US THAT TRIPS US UP.

Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.  And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.  Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Ephesians 4:29-31

5.FOCUS ON JESUS TO GAIN ENDURANCE TO RUN THE RACE GOD HAS GIVEN US.

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:2-3

CLOSING REMARKS: However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24
