Praying The Last Promise

Daniel 12:4-9

4 But you, Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal up the book until the time of the end, when many will rush here and there, and knowledge will increase.”

5 Then I, Daniel, looked and saw two others standing on opposite banks of the river. 6 One of them asked the man dressed in linen, who was now standing above the river, “How long will it be until these shocking events are over?”

7 The man dressed in linen, who was standing above the river, raised both his hands toward heaven and took a solemn oath by the One who lives forever, saying, “It will go on for a time, times, and half a time. When the shattering of the holy people has finally come to an end, all these things will have happened.”

8 I heard what he said, but I did not understand what he meant. So I asked, “How will all this finally end, my lord?”

9 But he said, “Go now, Daniel, for what I have said is kept secret and sealed until the time of the end.

Revelation 1:1-3

This is a revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him (Jesus) to show his servants the events that must soon take place. He (Jesus) sent an angel to present this revelation to his servant John, 2 who faithfully reported everything he saw. This is his report of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

3 God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.

Revelation 22:7, 10, 12, 13 & 16

7 “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book.

10 Then he instructed me, “Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book, for the time is near.

12 “Look, I am coming soon (swiftly, speedily), bringing my reward with me to repay all people according to their deeds.

13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”…….

16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this message for the churches. I am both the source of David and the heir to his throne. I am the bright morning star.”

Christ’s Last Promise:

Revelation 22:20

20 He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!”

Why Jesus Uses This Phrase

: Any-Day Expectation

of Action:  It will unfold rapidly and decisively.  (In a blink/twinkling of an eye) in Hardship/Persecution: “Light at the end of the tunnel.”

Call to : Links His return with bringing rewards and judging deeds, urging people to stay faithful and keep His words.

Our Prayer Response to Christ’s Last Promise:

Revelation 22:20

20 Amen!.. Yes!..  So be it!..  Come, Lord Jesus!

Our Prayers While We Await:

1. The Prayer (“Even so, come, Lord Jesus”)

2.  The Prayer (“Thy kingdom come”): Grounded in the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:10),

3.  Prayer for Readiness and Holiness: Prayers focus on faithfulness, watchfulness, and purification of heart.

4.  Prayers and Intercession for the : For mercy, evangelism, and others to repent before that day arrives.

2 Peter 3:9

9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.

The promise comes before the prayer:

We don’t pray for it to happen….we pray because it .

The prayer acknowledges and the promise
