Finding Freedom from Confession

Pastor Steve Anderson |  09.09.26

Romans 3:23-24

23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

Why Confession Is Good:

Sin is God, and He keeps track.

Psalm 51:4

4 Against you, and you alone, have I sinned; I have done what is evil in your sight.
You will be proved right in what you say, and your judgment against me is just.

Colossians 2:13-14

13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.

14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.

Sin affects your with God.

Isaiah 59:2

2 It’s your sins that have cut you off/separated you from/built barriers between you and God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.

Confession and forgiveness relationship.

Sets you from ongoing guilt or shame.

sin will eat you alive.

Proverbs 28:13 People who conceal their sins will not prosper,  but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.

To be truly from sin’s slavery.

Romans 6:20-22

20 When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the obligation to do right.

21 And what was the result? You are now ashamed of the things you used to do, things that end in eternal doom.

22 But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.

It’s for sake; health and well-being.

Proverbs 28:13

13 People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy.

Psalm 32:1-2

1 Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.

2 Blessed is the one whose sin the Lord does not count against them and in  whose spirit is no deceit.

Because sin your body.

Psalm 32:1-6

1 Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight!

2 Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of guilt,  whose lives are lived in complete honesty!

3 When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.

4 Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.

5 Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the Lord.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. 6 Therefore, let all the godly pray to you while there is still time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment.

Because God’s makes it safe to confess.

Psalm 32:5

5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess  my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.

Romans 3:23-24

23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

Because God’s is complete.

Acts 3:19

19 Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.

Hebrews 10:14

14 For by that one offering he forever made perfect those who are being made holy.

We need to be convinced of this so we don’t continue to live in guilt or shame.  BS

Because accompanied by leads to refreshing/restoration.

Acts 3:19-20

19 Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.

20 Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah.

Because it your identity.

Isaiah 43:1

1 But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says,“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.  I have called you by name; you are mine.

When Satan knows your name, he calls you by your sin.

When God knows your sin,  He calls you by name.
