Defiant Joy – Moving Forward
August 2, 2026Defiant Joy – Moving Forward
Pastor Blake Hanson | 8.2.26
Philippians 3:13–14 (NIV)
13Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
14I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
We can truly belong to Jesus and follow Him while still having of our lives that do not look like Him.
DEFIANT JOY THAT MOVES US FORWARD…
1. LEANS INTO GROWTH
Philippians 3:12 (NIV)
12Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Hebrews 6:1 (NIV)
1 Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity…
2. LET’S GO OF WHAT’S BEHIND TO FOR WHAT’S AHEAD
FOUR THINGS THAT KEEP US LOOKING BACK…
- of the past
3. LIVES BY THAT MOVE US TOWARD JESUS
Philippians 3:15–17 (NIV)
15All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you.
16Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
17Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.
1 Corinthians 11:1 (NIV)
1Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.
Philippians 3:18–19 (NIV)
18For, as I have often told you before and now tell you again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ.
19Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.
4. LOOKS AHEAD WITH CONFIDENCE BECAUSE OUR IS WITH JESUS
Philippians 3:20–21 (NIV)
20But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ,
21who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.
