Defiant Joy – Humility That Leads To Joy

Defiant Joy  – Humility That Leads To Joy

Philippians 2.1-11 | Pastor Blake Hanson | 7.12.26

: is a sense of delight or pleasure you feel regardless of your circumstances.

Philippians 2:1–2 (NIV)

1 Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,

2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

Philippians 2:3-4 (NIV)

3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

2 Timothy 3:2 (NIV)

2People will be lovers of themselves…

SELF-CENTEREDNESS LEAVES NO FOR HUMILITY BECAUSE…

1.   MYSELF

Philippians 2:3 (NIV)

3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit…

2.   OTHERS

Philippians 2:3 (NIV)

3 Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

3.   RELATIONSHIPS

Philippians 2:4 (NIV)

4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

HUMILITY THAT LEADS TO JOY…

1.  RESTS IN GOD’S

1 Corinthians 4:3–4 (NIV)

3I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself.

4My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.

Colossians 3:2–3 (NIV)

2Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

3For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

2.  RECOGNIZES THE OF OTHERS

Philippians 2:3–4 (NIV)

3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

27So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

3.  THINKS LIKE JESUS BEFORE IT LIKE JESUS

Philippians 2:5–11 (NIV)

5In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Philippians 2:6–11 (NIV)

6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;

7 rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!

9Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name,

10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
