THE MOMENT AFTER THE MOMENT

The Moment after the Moment

Pastor Tim McDaniel |  7.05.2026

Luke 3:21- 22 (NLT)

21 One day when the crowds were being baptized, Jesus himself was baptized. As he was praying, the heavens opened,

22 (NLT) and the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on him like a dove. And a voice from heaven said, “You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.”

Luke 4:1 (NLT)

1 Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River.

Mark 1:12-13 (ESV)

12 The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness.

13 And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan.

Satan is you for your destruction.

God is you for His use.

2 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)

7 We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.

Luke 4:2-3 (NLT)

2 …Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry.

3 Then the devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become a loaf of bread.”

Tempted to and Pride

Tempering our

Ephesians 2:8-10

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Matthew 5:6 (NIV)

6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

John 7:37-38 (NLT)

37 “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!

38 Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”

Matthew 4:4 (NLT)

4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

The purposes of God and the calling of God are my why.

Matthew 27:42-43 (NLT)

42 “He saved others,” they scoffed, “but he can’t save himself! So he is the King of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross right now, and we will believe in him!

43 He trusted God, so let God rescue him now if he wants him! For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

Luke 4:5 (NLT)

5 Then the devil took him up and revealed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

6 “I will give you the glory of these kingdoms and authority over them,” the devil said, “because they are mine to give to anyone I please.

7 I will give it all to you if you will worship me.

Tempted to

Colossians 2:20-21 (NLT)

20 You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world, such as,

21  “Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!”?

Tempering our

Luke 4:8 (NLT)

8 Jesus replied, “The Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’”

Romans 12:1-2 (NLT)

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.

2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Worship is an attitude of a heart entirely devoted to do the will of God

Luke 4:9-11 (NLT)

9 Then the devil took him to Jerusalem, to the highest point of the Temple, and said, “If you are the Son of God, jump off!

10 For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect and guard you.

11 And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’

Tempted to

1 Corinthians 8:2 (NLT)

2 Anyone who claims to know all the answers doesn’t really know very much.

Tempering our

Luke 4:12 (NLT)

12 Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.’”

Luke 23:8-9 (NLT)

8 Herod was delighted at the opportunity to see Jesus, because he had heard about him and had been hoping for a long time to see him perform a miracle.

9 He asked Jesus question after question, but Jesus refused to answer.

Faith trusts a God who keeps His promises, even if His promises lead to the cross.

2 Corinthians 4:17 (NIV)

17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
