Lessons From The Garden – Starting Small and Finishing Big
March 15, 2026Lessons From The Garden (1) – Starting Small & Finishing Big
Pastor Blake Hanson | 3.15.26
God specializes in starting and big!
Mark 4:30–32 (NLT)
30Jesus said, “How can I describe the Kingdom of God? What story should I use to illustrate it?
31It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground. It is the smallest of all seeds,
32but it becomes the largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade.”
GOD HIDES GREATNESS IN THINGS
Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)
10Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin…
Isaiah 53:2 (NLT)
2My servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him.
Colossians 2:15 (NLT)
15In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.
THE KINGDOM GROWS IN GROUND.
Mark 4:31 (NLT)
31It is like a mustard seed planted in the ground…
GROWTH IS BEFORE IT’S OBVIOUS.
Mark 4:26–27 (NLT)
26Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground.
27Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens.
Psalm 1:2–3 (NLT) – Planted first – fruit second.
2But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.
3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
GOD’S OUTCOME OUR EXPECTATIONS.
Corinthians 1:18–21 (NLT)
18The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
19As the Scriptures say, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent.”
20So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish.
21Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.
MATURE FAITH IS FOR OTHERS.
Mark 4:32 (NLT)
32but it becomes the largest of all garden plants; it grows long branches, and birds can make nests in its shade.”
Psalm 46:1 (NLT)
1 God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.
