One More Time: Tired, But Trying

Pastor Blake Hanson | 8.10.25

God does His best work when we have nothing left.

Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)

31 But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Luke 5:1–5 (NLT)

1 One day as Jesus was preaching on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, great crowds pressed in on him to listen to the word of God.

2 He noticed two empty boats at the water’s edge, for the fishermen had left them and were washing their nets.

3 Stepping into one of the boats, Jesus asked Simon, its owner, to push it out into the water. So he sat in the boat and taught the crowds from there.

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Now go out where it is deeper, and let down your nets to catch some fish.”

5 “Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing…

CAUSES OF BEING TIRED WE ALL FACE…

1.  Unexpected situations

2.  People

3.  Physical Work

 WHEN I’M TIRED AND TRYING…

1.  Listen and do even when you’re empty.

Luke 5:5 (NLT)

5“Master,” Simon replied, “we worked hard all last night and didn’t catch a thing. But if you say so, I’ll let the nets down again.”

Matthew 26:38–39 (NLT)

38 He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”

39 He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

2.  Partner with people who can carry the burden and blessing.

Luke 5:6–7 (NLT)

6 And this time their nets were so full of fish they began to tear!

7A shout  for help brought their partners in the other boat, and soon both boats were filled with fish and on the verge of sinking.

Who should help you carry life’s burdens and blessings?

  1. People who can bring value.
  2. People who are invested.
  3. People who will respond.
  4. People who have a similar call.

3.  Look beyond today’s struggles to tomorrow’s hope.

Luke 5:8–11 (NLT)

8 When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m such a sinful man.”

9 For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him.

10 His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!”

11 And as soon as they landed, they left everything and followed Jesus.

Romans 8:28 (NLT)

28And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.
