Keeping the Main Thing The Main Thing
March 5, 2025Keeping the Main Thing The Main Thing
Pastor Steve Anderson | March 5, 2025
Romans 16:17-19 And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions (into opposing groups/factions) and upset people’s faith/offend and arouse to opposition) by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from/avoid them. 18 Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people. 19 But everyone knows that you are obedient to the Lord. This makes me very happy. I want you to be wise in doing right and to stay innocent of any wrong.
Proverbs 6:16-19 (NIV) There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a lying tongue/false witness who pours out lies, and a person who stirs up conflict in the community/a family.
Titus 3:10 If people are causing divisions among you, give a first and second warning. After that, have nothing more to do with them.
1) Learn/know what’s important to God and what isn’t.
2) Use that WISDOM in Picking your Battles ….. Prioritize defending and teaching what matters and leave out what doesn’t.
2 Timothy 2:23 Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights.
(NIV) Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels.
Why avoid foolish arguments?
Foolish arguments can escalate tensions without bringing resolution.
They can distract from the gospel’s message and divide believers.
Proverbs 4:25 Look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you.
(MSG) Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions.
We only have so much time, opportunity, and influence.
Our goal should always be to foster understanding and repentance, not to win debates.
To encourage
To Build-up / Edify
To nurture and help others grow
Stand for truth in a way that seeks peace and unity
Romans 12:18 Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone. (NIV) 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
3) ALWAYS Keep the main thing the main thing – ALWAYS
Philippians 1:27 Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing together with one spirit and one purpose, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News.
OUR Breeze Church mission depends on it!
KNOW GOD……GROW WITH OTHERS…..FIND PURPOSE…….MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Keeping the main thing the main thing helps us stay away from what isn’t important and focus on what IS:
2 Peter 3:10-13 … the day of the Lord (Judgement Day) will come as unexpectedly as a thief. Then the heavens will pass away with a terrible noise, and the very elements themselves will disappear in fire, and the earth and everything on it will be found to deserve judgment. 11 Since everything around us is going to be destroyed like this, what holy and godly lives you should live, 12 looking forward to the day of God and hurrying it along. On that day, he will set the heavens on fire, and the elements will melt away in the flames. 13 But we are looking forward to the new heavens and new earth he has promised, a world filled with God’s righteousness.
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.….
