August 25, 2024

James #12: Faith & Ministry Seasons
Pastor Blake Hanson | James 5:13-20 | 8.25.24

Ephesians 4:11–12 (ESV)

11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers,

12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,

Pastors:

Church Family:

We are  and we’re to do ministry.

How does my faith work when I do ministry?

1. In seasons of suffering:

James 5:13a (ESV)

13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray.

2. In seasons of happiness:

James 5:13b (ESV)

13  Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise.

3. In seasons of sickness:

James 5:14–15a (ESV)

14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.

15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up.

4. In seasons of sinning:

    James 5:15b–16a (ESV)

15 And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.

    5. In seasons of weariness:

    James 5:16b (ESV)

16 The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.

    Luke 11:13 (NIV)

13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

    Ephesians 5:18 (NLT)

18 Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,

    6. In seasons of doubting:

    James 5:17–18 (ESV)

17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.

18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

    Isaiah 12:2 (NLT)

2 See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The Lord God is my strength and my song; he has given me victory.”

    7. In seasons of wandering:

    James 5:19–20 (ESV)

19 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back,

20 let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
