MAIN POINT: Be
If we are honest we are reminded that these interactions with the disciples are of us and how the Lord interacts with us as well with patience and forgiveness.
- Part of the responsibility of the church is to false teachers and their teaching
Some of us in here today maybe cringe as I name these. But Jesus names them from His day here in our text (16:6). Paul named some of the false teachers of his day:
- “Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me” (2 Timothy 4:10).
- “You are aware that all who are in Asia turned away from me, among whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes” (2 Timothy 1:15).
- “By rejecting this [faith and a good conscience], some have made shipwreck of their faith, among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander” (1 Timothy 1:19–20).
- “Their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus” (2 Timothy 2:17).
- The church is to POINT OUT false teachers and their teaching so believers will them because their doctrine does not align with Scripture.
So many we could look at but here are a few:
- The church is to point out false teachers, help believers avoid false teachers, but also the church is to false teachers publicly so that their impact will be minimized and they will be avoided by believers.
Look at 1 Timothy 5:20; Titus 1:10-16.
APPLICATION:
- that there are false teachers and that they are sneaky
- Believers must the Word very well
The best against the darkness of error is the light of truth
- Do not the Bible’s definition of love and judging to mean we accept false teaching.
When a mouth speaks unbiblical, destructive teaching, when a blog or an article or a book publishes unbiblical and destructive teaching, in all these cases, we are to be .
Look at John 7:24. Believers are to judge all things with judgment, with the Bible as our standard rather than our own preferences and biases.
