The Church at Odessa Matthew 8-9 Archived – January 7, 2024 View This Week’s Note View All Past Notes View This Note w/o Blanks Main Scripture Reference(s) Matthew 8:1-34 Matthew 8-9 January 7, 2024 / Chris Basham / Matthew 8:1-34 Here is what Matthew has shown us so far to accomplish this purpose of proving that Jesus is KING: Right Right fulfilled surrounding His birth and early life Right Right In Matthew 5-7 we looked at the of Jesus’ KINGDOM. MAIN POINT: Jesus’ Absolute What Matthew writes in chapters 8-9 is not primarily about the miracles themselves, but more about what the miracles regarding who Jesus is, specifically His absolute authority as the PROMISED KING. 1. Jesus’ works display who Jesus is – Jesus’ displays of authority and power are aimed at He is KING. 2. Jesus’ works display what Jesus’ KINGDOM is like – This is what Matthew 8-9 shows regarding Jesus’ ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY: Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 8:1-5) Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 8:5-13) Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 8:14-17) Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 8:23-27) Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 8:28-34) Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 9:1-12) Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 9:18-26) Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 9:27-31) Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 9:32-34) Jesus possesses authority over (Matthew 8-9) When Christ fully inaugurates His KINGDOM, not only will the of his KINGDOM be perfect, but the of His KINGDOM will also be perfect. 3. Jesus’ works display who we are apart from His grace and mercy – What we must see in all of this not only a glimpse of Jesus’ coming Kingdom but also a glimpse of apart from Christ and His salvation. Ultimate healing and entrance into Jesus’ KINGDOM is made possible only thru the . Perfection awaits, and until that day we in hope, faith and love and seek to display God’s glory and authority even in suffering 4. Jesus’ works display what His disciples must be like now – When following Jesus and other commitments conflict, the disciple follow Jesus even though his or her other commitments are legitimate. Jesus’ followers must be willing to all things and all people to follow Jesus faithfully. In submission to Jesus’ ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY we must take on Jesus’ as our own regarding our mission in life and how we see those around us. I would argue what all of us need first and more than anything is a new or towards how we see Jesus, ourselves and others. What we learn here is that Jesus is not with how things are right now – so the question becomes as His follower are you with how things are right now? When all the world runs from something, Christians should probably be that something or someone with the gospel and for Jesus’ Kingdom. Your attitude matters because your actions your attitude, unseen becomes seen. Jesus is our Savior, but He is also our . Believing that Jesus can and trusting Him to do as He wills is the of faith. ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY of Jesus ABSOLUTE ALLEGIANCE from His followers.
