The Gospel of the KINGdom
Matthew 2
MAIN POINT
Jesus is the King
Matthew records these details in his gospel to show that Jesus is Moses in every way, but also to show that Jesus is greater than Moses and will make a way to deliver His people and the whole world from sin.
The OT is not just a bunch of random moral stories, but the unfolding of a plan that culminates in and is in Jesus.
This passage among others teaches us to read the Bible rightly, with everything pointing to, culminating and being in Jesus.
Jesus is the PROMISED KING sent to God’s people from sin.
Jesus as the new and greater Moses offers a greater from sin for the whole world.
Micah 5:2 and its context describes an eternal king who will come from Bethlehem to rule over Israel, deliver them from exile, and be a great shepherd of them, with His reign and rule “to the ends of the earth”.
Both Pharoah and Herod killed the babies because they knew that from the Jews would rise a KING who would all other kingdoms of this world, including theirs.
God is directing all of the events to fulfill Scripture and at the same time protecting the life of Jesus as the promised seed who would destroy Satan and his kingdom.
Jesus did not come quietly, but with an to everything this world knew.
APPLICATION
Jesus and His Kingdom weren’t just dynamite then and for Rome politically, but Jesus and His Kingdom bring dynamite to our as well.
Jesus demands surrender to His Lordship and Kingdom ways for His followers.
ASK YOURSELF:
What remains of the old self that you refuse to kill?
Have you made peace with any sinful habits?
What areas of your life, your own personal kingdom, do you refuse to surrender to Jesus’ rule and reign and kingdom ways? Why not? What don’t you trust about Jesus? What doubts are you holding on to?
What areas of your life are you still sitting on the throne? Old kingdom dictating your ways?
Following Jesus will be costly, but it.
