“Peter Saw It…And Followed Him” – Luke 5:1-11
Luke 5:6-7 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
I. Jesus is
Luke 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
Acts 10:36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
Coming to terms with the Lordship of Jesus means that we submit to His rule over our lives, and it is what true Christian living is to be all about.
Romans 14:8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.
II. His Ways Are than Our Ways
Isaiah 55:9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are my ways higher than your ways, And my thoughts than your thoughts.
Romans 11:34 For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counselor?
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
What we have learned in our lives, and as a church, is that God blesses those who give.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
III. He Uses People
Luke 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.
When you truly see Jesus, you not only see His holiness and perfection, but by contrast, we see our sin and imperfection.
Isaiah 6:5 Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.
Mark 1:19 And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
Ephesians 4:11-12 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
IV. A Partial Commitment is No
Luke 5:11 And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
