“Ask What I Shall Give Thee” – 1 Kings 3:3-13
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
1 Kings 3:9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
1 Kings 3:12 Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise heart and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
1 Kings 4:30 And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.
1 Kings 3:13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honor: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all they days.
I. His Was Right
1 Kings 3:3a And Solomon loved the Lord,
Sin has spiritual ramifications that limit our prayers from being answered.
Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear me:
When we go to God based on mercy, He never turns us away.
Psalm 66:19-20 But verily God hath heard me; He hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
II. His Was Right
If your heart is not right, your head will not be right.
1 Kings 3:7 And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
1 Kings 3:8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
Prayer is not about getting God’s help in our own plans but getting His help so we can do His plans.
Our trials are for the purpose of driving us to Him in prayer.
James 4:2b Ye have not, because ye ask not.
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
III. His Was Right
1 Kings 3:9 Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
Proverbs 2:1-5 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, And hide my commandments with thee; So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, And apply thine heart to understanding; Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, And liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, And searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.
