FATHER’S DAY – I AM YOUR FATHER

8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Matthew 6:8-13 (NKJV)

  • He explained the importance of doing the will of the Father (Matt 7:21).
  • In the garden of Gethsemne, Jesus prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me.” (Matthew 26:39)
  • Fourteen times in the Sermon on the Mount, Christ refers to God as “your Father” (Matt 5-7)
  • When outside the tomb of Lazarus, He said: “Father, I thank you that you have heard me” (John 11:41).
  • The night before the crucifixtion, Jesus began Hid prayer, “Father, the hour has come…” (v. 17:1)

26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.”

Galatians 3:26

15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:15

WHAT IS TRUE FOR EVERYONE

  • Personal belief in Jesus as Lord places you in the .

1See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!”

I John 3:1

10 So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil.”

I John 3:10

THE FATHERHOOD OF GOD (how is it expressed)

  1. Desires an relationships with us.

“O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. 3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.”

Psalm 139:1-4

        2. Wants to clearly with us.

7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Matthew 7:7-8

        3. Loves us “”.

8 The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. 9 He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. 10 He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. 11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.”

Psalm 103:8-11

        4. Meets all of our .

1-2
O my soul, bless God. From head to toe, I’ll bless his holy name! O my soul, bless God, don’t forget a single blessing! 3-5 He forgives your sins—every one. He heals your diseases—every one. He redeems you from hell—saves your life! He crowns you with love and mercy—a paradise crown. He wraps you in goodness—beauty eternal. He renews your youth—you’re always young in his presence.”

Psalm 103:1-5 (MSG)

        5. us.

5 And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as his children?[d] He said, “My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when he corrects you. 6 For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.”

7 As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? 8 If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all. 9 Since we respected our earthly fathers who disciplined us, shouldn’t we submit even more to the discipline of the Father of our spirits, and live forever?

10 For our earthly fathers disciplined us for a few years, doing the best they knew how. But God’s discipline is always good for us, so that we might share in his holiness. 11 No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

Hebrews 12:5-11

        6. Guides us to do the .

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

8 The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”

Psalm 32:8
