Sit down, settle in and stop seeking

WHO TOLD YOU? – To sit down, settle in and stop seeking?

“Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Matthew 7:7-8

“Come close to God, and God will come close to you.”

James 4:8

“I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me.”

Proverbs 8:17

WHAT SEEKERS DO…

  1. They LOOK differently.

“Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!” But he was also afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!”

Genesis 28:16-17

2. They LINGER longer.

“Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.”

Hebrews 11:6

3. They live LOUDER.

“For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.”

Romans 1:16

WHAT GOD WANTS TRUE SEEKERS TO KNOW

  1. True spirituality

“Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! We don’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! No, we neither make nor save ourselves. God does both the making and saving. He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.”

Ephesians 2:8-10 (MSG)

2. True spirituality is ALL ENCOMPASSING

“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

I Corinthians 10:31

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.”

Colossians 3:23

“Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.”

Proverbs 3:6

“The Lord demands accurate scales and balances; he sets the standards for fairness.”

Proverbs 16:11

3. True spirituality is UNCOMFORTABLE.

“We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy.”

Colossians 1:11

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?[l] Is anything worth more than your soul? “

Matthew 16:24-26

4. True spirituality is JESUS-CENTERED

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.”

Colossians 1:15-17

“And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”

Colossians 3:17
