“MY MENTOR AND MY HOME”
Text: Philippians 3:17-21
II Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought the good fight, I have FINISHED the race, I have kept the faith.”
- Wisdom in life comes from our MISTAKES AND OUR MENTORS.
- Change comes from Learning from our pain, hurting in our pain, and receiving information during our pain.
- Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.
- Stubbornness is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Best friends are comfortable with your past. Mentors are comfortable with your future.
Best friends ignore your weaknesses. Mentors help to remove your weaknesses.
Best friends are your cheerleaders. A mentor becomes your coach.
Best friends see what you do right. A mentor sees what you do wrong.
1. LEARNING FROM MENTORS.
2 Timothy 2:2: “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
WATCH THEIR LIVES (Take note) = [Mark your attention with a desire or interest in, to observe intently, take special note of, keep your eyes on].
MIMIC THEIR LIVES- “Follow their example.” “Following” =[“imitator”] =/ “mimic”. “Please mimic and imitate my life.”
I Corinthians 11:1, “Follow me as I follow Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 1:6-7, “And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit, 7 so that you became examples to all in Macedonia and Achaia who believe.”
Titus 2:7-8, “In all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, 8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.”

2. LEARNING TO GO TO HEAVEN.
Philippians 3:20-21, “For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.”
Ephesians 2:19, “Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,.”
John 14:3-4, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
Revelation 21:16-17, “The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. 17 Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel.”
Revelation 22:1-2, “And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. 2 In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”
Matt. 24:35, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
A Christian is already a citizen of heaven, and their name is on heaven’s register. We are only waiting for the day when we will move there. All that remains is our moving there.
