HELP! – I’M MARRIED!
The further we get away from the creation ideal, the more confused we become about who we are.
TODAY’S MESSAGE: Help! -I’m a Woman!
TEXT: Genesis 1:26-28; Genesis 2:18-19; Genesis 2:20-24; Genesis 3:20
IT’S MORE IMPORTANT THAT YOU BE THE “RIGHT PERSON” THAN FOR YOU TO FIND THE PERFECT MATE.”
The reality is that our needs are never fully met or fulfilled by our spouse. We never fully get what we need from them. This will often lead us to the FALSE ASSUMPTION that we have married the wrong person.
- We live in a culture in which there is much confusion over
- What does it mean to be a man? What does it mean to be a woman?
What is our source of authority?
What framework does that authority give us to understand the sexes?
Our authority for understanding male and female will be the scriptures, particularly the creation order. We can’t make sense of humanity, life, the world (or redemption) apart from understanding the creation order.
The distinction between men and women has often led to a perceived inequality— even in the church.
When we turn the distinction into inequality, we are wrong.
When we eliminate distinctions to promote equality, we are wrong.
1. IN THE BEGINNING. Genesis 1:26-28
Men and women are created equally in the image of God.
Men and women were created equally to rule and have dominion.
Humanity has been given permission to fill, subdue, and rule, and the mandate is given to both men and women.
WOMAN is not created as a decoration for creation, but is to be made to sit passively as creation unfolds.
THE WOMAN IS TO BE A CO-HEIR. “She was created to be by Adam’s side. To stand as an equal. Not to be under his feet, not to be under His dominion, but to be near His heart.”
2. THERE IS LONELINESS IN ADAM’S LIFE. Genesis 2:18-24
A woman is created in response to a deficiency in Adam’s life. God calls her a helpmate. The man calls her a woman.

3. WOMEN BRING LIFE INTO THE WORLD. Genesis 3:20
- Eve became the mother of all the living.
- She is the life-
- She will be the life-giver of human victory over Satan through the
- Women are given the ability to breathe life into creation on a level that men are not.
4. WOMEN BRING PURITY INTO THE HOME. Genesis 2:25
In the garden, prior to sin’s corruption, we see a man and his wife both naked and feeling no shame. What we see here is the purity God intended for marriage.
What is the message in this for us today?
Hebrews 13:4 –The marriage bed is pure! And it is to be kept pure.
TWO POINTS OF APPLICATION:
- Men—a deep appreciation, mutual respect for what God has created in the
- Women—Seize and fulfill the calling that God has placed in you at
