“WHAT CHAIR ARE YOU SITTING IN?”
TEXT: Ps. 1:1-3 ; Judges 3:20b
Every person is sitting in a chair. A chair describes our spiritual life, whether it is growing, alive, and active or sick, dying, and dead. John 10:10
- Commitment- It is full of faith; it has action. It is excited about the things of God.
- Compromise- It is lukewarm; it has little movement. The person in this chair has dropped their standards.
- Complacency– It is cold to the things of God; it never moves.
1. THE CHAIR OF COMMITMENT.
“To pledge oneself to as a position, a cause or an issue.”
- Commitment is evidenced in priorities. Ps. 42:1
- Commitment is having power for God. Acts 1:8
Chair # 1 is a chair of power, a chair of plenty, a chair of peace. This chair has worship and is evangelistic.
POWER IS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO SIT IN THE CHAIR OF COMMITMENT.
2. THE CHAIR OF COMPROMISE.
This is the chair of traditionalism and conventionalism. There is a form of Godliness, but they deny the power in their own lives. This is the lukewarm chair, where there is a mixture of Christ and compromise.
Rev. 3:14-18
- It means that you are not as committed AS YOU ONCE WERE.
Little things slip by. The conviction of the Holy Spirit goes unnoticed
- Abraham sat in chair No. 1, but his son sat in chair #2: Issac.
- The Church at Ephesus was the Church of commitment, but it is now the Church of compromise. 2:1-4
- David sat in chair No. 1, but his son Solomon was sitting in chair #2.
3. THE CHAIR OF COMPLACENCY.
Often, the chair of compromise leads to the chair of complacency. The seat of complacency is smug.
Very self-satisfied. In this seat: “You don’t do the will of God, and you aren’t convicted.”-Dangerous!
- Rehoboam was Solomon’s Son, a wicked king who sat in chair #3.
- Jacob sat in chair # 3
STAY IN CHAIR # 1!
- Set a commitment to prayer, attendance, studying the word, good works, and holiness.
- You need the correct environment of Christlikeness to mature.
- You need an up-to-date salvation for yourself. (Remove the backsliding)
- Examination of SELF: “Whatsoever a man sows that shall He also reap.”
