Give / Invest

 

Mark 12:41  And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. 42 And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. 43 And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

 

Giving is an act of faith.

It’s an act of obedience.

Giving is an invitation for God to do something for us, through us and to us.

Giving is an act of devotion.

Giving is an act of trust and humility.

 

Jesus is watching us today.

Jesus is watching you today.

Jesus knows your heart today.

And what is he seeing?

 

And here is a simple fact; you give effortlessly to what your heart treasures.

 

Go public with what you treasure and what you believe by giving.

But the world now that you freely and effortlessly give to the cause of Jesus Christ.

 

Go public. We are in a series of messages about going public with our faith in Jesus Christ.

 

Romans 1:16  (NLT)  For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.

 

In today’s Scripture it’s only one of many, many times Jesus points the money is a giant proof of how far along we are in our journey with him. Money is not incidental to your spiritual formation; it is central to it. You cannot be godly and walking with Jesus and be bad at money at the same time.

 

Here’s what Jesus says;

 

Luke 16:10   He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? 12 And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own?

13 “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

 

14 The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things, and they ridiculed him.

 

First and foremost, money is a test of our faithfulness.

 

Reach into your pocket this morning and pull out your wallet. What you are holding in your hand is the temple of the 21st century. This is the place where the God mammon lives.

 

What is mammon? What does Jesus mean by this?

 

Mammon is the false god and the evil idol spirit that surrounds money;

• Mammon whispers in your ear that life would be sweeter, and that people would listen to you more and that your problems would vanish if only you had more of him – more mammon or more money.

 

Jesus is calling out this spirit of Mammon as a chief competitor against God. Look at the words that Jesus uses;

• mammon wants you to be faithful to it, and so does God.
• Mammon wants to be your master, and so does God.
• Mammon wants you to trust it, and so does God.
• Mammon wants your loyalty, so does God.
• Mammon wants you to serve it, and so does God.
• Mammon wants to be loved, and so does God.
• Mammon wants to be your Lord, and so does God.

 

Jesus tells us what we are to do.

Matthew 6:19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also….

24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

 

Let me ask you three critical questions this morning;

1. Does your money handle you or do you handle your money? Do your possessions possess you or do you possess your possessions?

2. When it comes to your treasures ask this; not what do you have to show for it, but who do you have to show for it?

 

The difference between treasure on the earth and treasure in heaven is this; treasure on earth is something that benefits us, something that we take comfort in,

treasure on earth is something that we want to show off (pride) and something we depend on

and treasure in heaven is something that benefits somebody else and can be used by God to change things.

 

Treasure on earth is taking our stuff and making it work for me. Treasure in heaven is taking the stuff God has given us and making it work for him.

 

We work really hard to get what we want… But are we working really hard to get God what he wants?

3. The third question is this; which way should we be thinking; how much of my money should I give or how much of God’s money should I keep for myself?

 

When it comes to giving there is basically three levels of givers…

 

1. The leftover giver.

2. The loyal giver.

3. The love giver.

 

My challenge to you today is to go public with your giving.

Mucha gente rica pone grandes sumas de dinero. 42 Y vino una viuda pobre y echó dos moneditas de cobre, que valen un denario. 43 Y llamando a sus discípulos, les dijo: De cierto os digo que esta viuda pobre ha echado más que todos los que contribuyen al cofre.44 Porque todos contribuyeron de lo que les sobraba, pero ella, de su pobreza, echó todo lo que tenía, todo lo que tenía para vivir.

 

Dar es un acto de fe.

Es un acto de obediencia.

Dar es una invitación para que Dios haga algo por nosotros, a través de nosotros y para nosotros.

Dar es un acto de devoción.

Dar es un acto de confianza y humildad.

 

Jesús nos está observando hoy.

Jesús te está observando hoy.

Jesús conoce tu corazón hoy.

¿Y qué es lo que está viendo?

 

Y aquí hay un hecho simple; Das sin esfuerzo a lo que tu corazón atesora.

 

Haz público lo que atesoras y lo que crees al dar.

Pero el mundo ahora que libremente y sin esfuerzo le das a la causa de Jesucristo.

 

Hazlo público. Estamos en una serie de mensajes acerca de hacer pública nuestra fe en Jesucristo.

 

Romanos 1:16 (NTV) Porque no me avergüenzo de esta Buena Nueva acerca de Cristo. Es el poder de Dios obrando, salvando a todos los que creen, al judío primero y también al gentil.

 

En las Escrituras de hoy, es solo una de las muchas, muchas veces que Jesús señala que el dinero es una prueba gigante de lo lejos que estamos en nuestro viaje con él. El dinero no es incidental a tu formación espiritual; es fundamental para ello. No se puede ser piadoso y caminar con Jesús y ser malo en el dinero al mismo tiempo.

 

Esto es lo que dice Jesús;

 

Lucas 16:10 El que es fiel en lo poco, también es fiel en lo mucho; y el que es injusto en lo poco, también es injusto en lo mucho. 11 Por tanto, si no has sido fiel en las riquezas injustas, ¿quién te confiará las verdaderas riquezas? 12 Y si no has sido fiel en lo ajeno, ¿quién te dará lo que es tuyo?

13 “Ningún siervo puede servir a dos señores; porque o aborrecerá al uno y amará al otro, o será leal al uno y despreciará al otro. No se puede servir a Dios y a las riquezas”.

 

14 Al oír todas estas cosas los fariseos, que amaban el dinero, se burlaban de él.

 

En primer lugar, el dinero es una prueba de nuestra fidelidad.

 

Mete la mano en el bolsillo esta mañana y saca tu billetera. Lo que tienes en la mano es el templo del siglo XXI. Este es el lugar donde vive el Dios Mammón.

 

¿Qué es el? ¿Qué quiere decir Jesús con esto?

 

Mammon es el dios falso y el espíritu ídolo maligno que rodea al dinero;

• Mammon te susurra al oído que la vida sería más dulce, y que la gente te escucharía más y que tus problemas desaparecerían si tan solo tuvieras más de él, más o más dinero.

 

Jesús está llamando a este espíritu de Mammón como un competidor principal contra Dios. Fíjate en las palabras que usa Jesús;

• Mammón quiere que seas fiel a ella, y Dios también.
• Mammon quiere ser tu amo, y Dios también.
• Mammon quiere que confíes en él, y Dios también.
• Mammon quiere tu lealtad, Dios también.
• Mammon quiere que le sirvas, y Dios también.
• Mammon quiere ser amado, y Dios también.
• Mammon quiere ser tu Señor, y Dios también.

 

Jesús nos dice lo que debemos hacer.

 

Lucas 16:10 El que es fiel en lo poco, también es fiel en lo mucho; y el que es injusto en lo poco, también es injusto en lo mucho. 11 Por tanto, si no has sido fiel en las riquezas injustas, ¿quién te confiará las verdaderas riquezas? 12 Y si no has sido fiel en lo ajeno, ¿quién te dará lo que es tuyo?

 

Mateo 6:19 “No os hagáis tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el orín corrompen, y donde ladrones minan y hurtan, 20 sino haceos tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el orín corrompen, y donde ladrones no minan ni hurtan. 21 Porque donde esté tu tesoro, allí estará también tu corazón.

24 Nadie puede servir a dos señores, porque o aborrecerá al uno y amará al otro, o se dedicará al uno y despreciará al otro. No se puede servir a Dios y a las riquezas.

 

Permítanme hacerles tres preguntas críticas esta mañana;

1. ¿Tu dinero te maneja a ti o tú manejas tu dinero? ¿Tus posesiones te poseen a ti o tú posees tus posesiones?
2. Cuando se trata de tus tesoros, pregúntate esto; No es lo que tienes que mostrar por ello, sino ¿a quién tienes que mostrar por ello?

 

La diferencia entre el tesoro en la tierra y el tesoro en el cielo es esta; tesoro en la tierra es algo que nos beneficia, algo en lo que nos consolamos,

El tesoro en la tierra es algo de lo que queremos presumir (orgullo) y algo de lo que dependemos

y el tesoro en el cielo es algo que beneficia a alguien más y puede ser usado por Dios para cambiar las cosas.

 

El tesoro en la tierra es tomar nuestras cosas y hacer que funcionen para mí. El tesoro en el cielo es tomar las cosas que Dios nos ha dado y hacer que trabajen para Él.

 

Trabajamos muy duro para conseguir lo que queremos… Pero ¿estamos trabajando muy duro para darle a Dios lo que quiere?

3. La tercera pregunta es la siguiente; ¿De qué manera deberíamos estar pensando? ¿Cuánto de mi dinero debo dar o cuánto del dinero de Dios debo guardar para mí?

 

Cuando se trata de dar, hay básicamente tres niveles de dadores…

1. Lo sobrante da.
2. El dador leal.
3. El amor da.

 

Mi reto para ustedes hoy es que hagan públicas sus donaciones.

 

 

 ¡Veamos lo que DIOS puede hacer!
