Go Tell

Go public. We are in a series of messages about going public with our faith in Jesus Christ.

Everybody else is going public.

Everyone else is stepping out of a closet and demanding validation and respect for who they are and what they do no matter how crazy it is.

And in a culture like this, we who follow Jesus, sometimes feel outnumbered and overwhelmed in small and insignificant which is exactly what these attacks are supposed to do.

 

During this series my challenge is that we step out of the shadows – And publicly stand for Jesus.

 

The Scripture that we started out with last week says it quite clearly;

 

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile. 17 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

 

Today I want you to go public by embracing your part in the global mission of God to GO TELL someone about Jesus. To invite someone to church. To share with someone else what you have found.

 

Found people find people.

Every Christian is a sent person to the world.

There is no such thing as an unsent Christian.

You are the message that God is sending to the world.

 

About 850 years before Jesus was born, Israel was being ruled by King Jehoram who was a very wicked King and had no interest in following God. King Jehoram eventually found himself in a really bad predicament; He was under siege and about to be wiped out. Then God moved.

 

 

2 Kings 7:1-18 (NLT)

1 Elisha replied, “Listen to this message from the Lord! This is what the Lord says: By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, five quarts of choice flour will cost only one piece of silver, and ten quarts of barley grain will cost only one piece of silver. ”2 The officer assisting the king said to the man of God, “That couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!” But Elisha replied, “You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!”

 

3 Now there were four men with leprosy sitting at the entrance of the city gates. “Why should we sit here waiting to die?” they asked each other. “We will starve if we stay here, but with the famine in the city, we will starve if we go back there. So, we might as well go out and surrender to the Aramean army. If they let us live, so much the better. But if they kill us, we would have died anyway.”

 

5 So at twilight they set out for the camp of the Arameans. But when they came to the edge of the camp, no one was there! For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching. “The king of Israel has hired the Hittites and Egyptians to attack us!” They cried to one another. So, they panicked and ran into the night, abandoning their tents, horses, donkeys, and everything else, as they fled for their lives.

 

8 When the lepers arrived at the edge of the camp, they went into one tent after another, eating and drinking wine; and they carried off silver and gold and clothing and hid it. Finally, they said to each other, “This is not right. This is a day of good news, and we aren’t sharing it with anyone! If we wait until morning, some calamity will certainly fall upon us. Come on, let’s go back and tell the people at the palace.”

 

10 So they went back to the city and told the gatekeepers what had happened. “We went out to the Aramean camp,” they said, “and no one was there! The horses and donkeys were tethered, and the tents were all in order, but there wasn’t a single person around!” Then the gatekeepers shouted the news to the people in the palace.

 

12 The king got out of bed in the middle of the night and told his officers, “I know what has happened. The Arameans know we are starving, so they have left their camp and have hidden in the fields. They are expecting us to leave the city, and then they will take us alive and capture the city.” One of his officers replied, “We had better send out scouts to check into this. Let them take five of the remaining horses. If something happens to them, it will be no worse than if they stay here and die with the rest of us.” 

 

So, two chariots with horses were prepared, and the king sent scouts to see what had happened to the Aramean army. They went all the way to the Jordan River, following a trail of clothing and equipment that the Arameans had thrown away in their mad rush to escape. The scouts returned and told the king about it. Then the people of Samaria rushed out and plundered the Aramean camp. So, it was true that five quarts of choice flour were sold that day for one piece of silver, and ten quarts of barley grain were sold for one piece of silver, just as the Lord had promised.

 

That is a fascinating event. I love reading about how God moves. But when we read this, it just becomes so obvious to us what these lepers need to do. We are practically amazed that it didn’t strike them sooner than they needed to share the wealth; to GO TELL!

 

The real kicker is verse 9 of the story…

 

Verse nine… Finally, they said to each other, “This is not right. This is a day of good news, and we aren’t sharing it with anyone!”

 

Many of us are good people – we have surrendered to Gods moral will and we’ve surrendered to God’s personal will but there are many of us who have never surrendered to God’s global purposes, we have never surrendered to God’s purposes outside of us.  We have never surrendered to God’s will for the rest of the world.

 

Have you ever surrendered, not just your morality, but to God’s purposes in the world.   Will you say, “I am available to be an extension in my culture, at work, at home, were ever I am I’ll be an extension of your grace and compassion and your boundless love to anyone who my life intersects with?”

 

Finally, they said to each other, “This is not right. This is a day of good news, and we aren’t sharing it with anyone!

 

Is there a way to do this? The strategy is so simple I think it will encourage you.

 

1 Corinthians 3:5 What then is Apollos? What is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, as the Lord assigned to each. 6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 8 He who plants and he who waters are one, and each will receive his wages according to his labor. 9 For we are God’s fellow workers. You are God’s field, God’s building.

 

Look at that Scripture and discern a couple of things;

1. Found people find people. God uses people to bring other people to Jesus. This is the plan of God.
2. God has an assignment specifically for you to facilitate bringing people to Jesus.
3. Your assignment is to purposefully plant and water the seed.
4. God is the one who gives life and growth to the seeds that you plant and water.
5. It is intentional work/labor.
6. We are doing this together with all the other believers.

 

The strategy is for you to be a seed planter.

A fire starter.

To make the most of opportunities.

To be intentional.

 

The ending challenge is this; if you have somebody that you are desperately praying for, somebody you really care about, and you are hoping someone will come across their path and love them and share with them the message of Jesus Christ… If the person who ended up coming across their path was exactly like you, as bold as you are bold for Jesus, as passionate as you are passionate for Jesus, as involved in the church as you are involved for Jesus – What would they hear?

 

If you’re saying, “uh oh,” then something needs to change.

 

Jesus is everything everyone needs and this good news can’t be left for someone else to do. You are the message.

 

Every Christian is a sent one. There is no such thing as an unsent Christian.

 

Let’s see what GOD can do!

Hazlo público. Estamos en una serie de mensajes acerca de hacer pública nuestra fe en Jesucristo.

 

Todos los demás se están haciendo públicos.

Todos los demás están saliendo de un armario y exigiendo validación y respeto por quiénes son y qué hacen, sin importar cuán loco sea.

Y en una cultura como esta, los que seguimos a Jesús, a veces nos sentimos superados en número y abrumados en lo pequeño e insignificante, que es exactamente lo que se supone que deben hacer estos ataques.

 

Durante esta serie, mi reto es que salgamos de las sombras y defendamos públicamente a Jesús.

 

La Escritura con la que comenzamos la semana pasada lo dice muy claramente;

 

Romanos 1:16 Porque no me avergüenzo de esta Buena Noticia acerca de Cristo. Es el poder de Dios obrando, salvando a todos los que creen, al judío primero y también al gentil. 17 Estas Buenas Nuevas nos dicen cómo Dios nos hace justos delante de él. Esto se logra de principio a fin por la fe. Como dicen las Escrituras: “Es por medio de la fe que el justo tiene vida”.

 

Hoy quiero que lo hagas público aceptando tu parte en la misión global de Dios de IR a contarle a alguien acerca de Jesús. Invitar a alguien a la iglesia. Compartir con otra persona lo que has encontrado.

 

La gente encontrada, la gente encuentra.

Cada cristiano es una persona enviada al mundo.

No existe tal cosa como un cristiano no enviado.

Tú eres el mensaje que Dios está enviando al mundo.

 

Unos 850 años antes de que Jesús naciera, Israel estaba siendo gobernado por el rey Joram, que era un rey muy malvado y no tenía ningún interés en seguir a Dios. Con el tiempo, el rey Joram se encontró en una situación realmente mala; Estaba sitiado y a punto de ser aniquilado. Entonces Dios se movió.

 

 

2 Reyes 7:1-18 (NTV)

1 Eliseo respondió: —¡Escuchen este mensaje del Señor! Así dice el Señor: Mañana a esta hora, en las plazas de Samaria, cinco litros de harina escogida costarán solo una pieza de plata, y diez litros de grano de cebada costarán solo una pieza de plata. “2 El alguacil que asistía al rey dijo al hombre de Dios: «¡Eso no podría suceder aunque el Señor abriera las ventanas de los cielos!» Pero Eliseo respondió: “Lo verás con tus propios ojos, pero no podrás comer nada de él”.

 

3 Había cuatro hombres leprosos sentados a la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad. “¿Por qué deberíamos sentarnos aquí esperando a morir?”, se preguntaban unos a otros. “Nos moriremos de hambre si nos quedamos aquí, pero con la hambruna en la ciudad, moriremos de hambre si volvemos allí. Por lo tanto, es mejor que salgamos y nos rindamos al ejército arameo. Si nos dejan vivir, mucho mejor. Pero si nos matan, habríamos muerto de todos modos”.

 

5 Al anochecer se pusieron en camino hacia el campamento de los arameos. Pero cuando llegaron al borde del campamento, ¡no había nadie allí! Porque el Señor había hecho que el ejército arameo oyera el estrépito de los carros que corrían a toda velocidad, el galope de los caballos y los ruidos de un gran ejército que se acercaba. “¡El rey de Israel ha contratado a los hititas y a los egipcios para atacarnos!” Se gritaban unos a otros. Entonces, entraron en pánico y corrieron hacia la noche, abandonando sus tiendas, caballos, burros y todo lo demás, mientras huían para salvar sus vidas.

 

8 Cuando los leprosos llegaron a la orilla del campamento, entraron en una tienda tras otra, comiendo y bebiendo vino, y se llevaron plata, oro y vestidos, y lo escondieron. Finalmente, se dijeron el uno al otro: “Esto no está bien. Este es un día de buenas noticias, ¡y no lo vamos a compartir con nadie! Si esperamos hasta la mañana, alguna calamidad caerá sobre nosotros. Vamos, volvamos y decímoslo a la gente del palacio”.

 

10 Así que regresaron a la ciudad y contaron a los porteros lo que había sucedido. “Salimos al campamento arameo”, dijeron, “¡y no había nadie! Los caballos y los burros estaban atados, y las tiendas estaban en orden, ¡pero no había una sola persona alrededor!” Entonces los porteros gritaron la noticia a la gente en el palacio.

 

12 El rey se levantó de la cama en medio de la noche y les dijo a sus oficiales: —Ya sé lo que ha pasado. Los arameos saben que nos estamos muriendo de hambre, así que han abandonado su campamento y se han escondido en los campos. Esperan que salgamos de la ciudad, y luego nos tomarán vivos y capturarán la ciudad”. Uno de sus oficiales respondió: “Será mejor que enviemos exploradores para verificar esto. Que se lleven cinco de los caballos restantes. Si les pasa algo, no será peor que si se quedan aquí y mueren con el resto de nosotros”.

 

Así que se prepararon dos carros con caballos, y el rey envió exploradores para ver qué había sucedido con el ejército arameo. Llegaron hasta el río Jordán, siguiendo un rastro de ropa y equipo que los arameos habían tirado en su loca carrera por escapar. Los exploradores regresaron y se lo contaron al rey. Entonces los habitantes de Samaria se apresuraron a saquear el campamento arameo. Por lo tanto, era cierto que ese día se vendieron cinco litros de harina escogida por una pieza de plata, y diez cuartos de galón de grano de cebada se vendieron por una pieza de plata, tal como el Señor lo había prometido.

 

Es un acontecimiento fascinante. Me encanta leer acerca de cómo Dios se mueve. Pero cuando leemos esto, se vuelve tan obvio para nosotros lo que estos leprosos necesitan hacer. Estamos prácticamente asombrados de que no se hayan dado cuenta antes de lo que necesitaban para compartir la riqueza; ¡IR A CONTAR!

 

El verdadero truco es el versículo 9 de la historia…

 

Versículo nueve… Finalmente, se dijeron el uno al otro: “Esto no está bien. ¡Este es un día de buenas noticias y no lo vamos a compartir con nadie!”.

 

Muchos de nosotros somos buenas personas: nos hemos rendido a la voluntad moral de Dios y nos hemos rendido a la voluntad personal de Dios, pero hay muchos de nosotros que nunca nos hemos rendido a los propósitos globales de Dios, nunca nos hemos rendido a los propósitos de Dios fuera de nosotros.  Nunca nos hemos rendido a la voluntad de Dios para el resto del mundo.

 

¿Alguna vez te has rendido, no solo a tu moralidad, sino a los propósitos de Dios en el mundo? ¿Dirás: “Estoy disponible para ser una extensión en mi cultura, en el trabajo, en casa, donde quiera que esté, seré una extensión de tu gracia y compasión y tu amor ilimitado para cualquiera con quien mi vida se cruce”?

 

Finalmente, se dijeron el uno al otro: “Esto no está bien. Este es un día de buenas noticias, ¡y no lo vamos a compartir con nadie!

 

¿Hay alguna manera de hacer esto? La estrategia es tan simple que creo que te animará.

 

1 Corintios 3:5 ¿Qué es, pues, Apolos? ¿Qué es Pablo? Siervos por medio de los cuales creísteis, como el Señor asignó a cada uno. 6 Yo planté, Apolos regó, pero Dios dio el crecimiento. 7 Así que ni el que planta ni el que riega es nada, sino solo Dios que da el crecimiento. 8 El que planta y el que riega son uno, y cada uno recibirá su salario según su trabajo. 9 Porque somos colaboradores de Dios. Ustedes son el campo de Dios, el edificio de Dios.

 

Mire esa Escritura y discierna un par de cosas;

1. Personas encontradas, encuentran personas. Dios usa a las personas para llevar a otras personas a Jesús. Este es el plan de Dios.
2. Dios tiene una tarea específica para ti para facilitar el acercamiento de las personas a Jesús.
3. Tu tarea es plantar y regar la semilla a propósito.
4. Dios es el que da vida y crecimiento a las semillas que siembras y riegas.
5. Es un trabajo intencional.
6. Lo estamos haciendo junto con todos los demás creyentes.

 

La estrategia es que seas un sembrador de semillas.

Un iniciador de fuego.

Para aprovechar al máximo las oportunidades.

Ser intencional.

 

El desafío final es este; si tienes a alguien por quien estás orando desesperadamente, alguien que realmente te importa, y esperas que alguien se cruce en su camino y lo ame y comparta con él el mensaje de Jesucristo… Si la persona que terminó cruzándose en su camino fuera exactamente como tú, tan audaz como tú eres valiente por Jesús, tan apasionada como tú eres apasionada por Jesús, tan involucrada en la iglesia como tú estás involucrada por Jesús, ¿qué escucharían?

 

Si estás diciendo “uh oh”, entonces algo tiene que cambiar.

 

Jesús es todo lo que todos necesitan y esta buena noticia no se puede dejar para que otra persona la haga. Tú eres el mensaje.

 

Todo cristiano es un enviado. No existe tal cosa como un cristiano no enviado.

 

¡Veamos lo que DIOS puede hacer!
