Not Ashamed of the Gospel

 

Today we are beginning a new series of messages that will take us into the month of May. It’s called go public.

 

I want to transport you back to the world in which the New Testament was written. We are talking about living in the Roman Empire in A.D. 60. The Roman Empire was an anti-God, oppressive government structure. It is devoted to opulence. It squashes any competitor that comes along to challenge it whether it’s a military force from another country or a new religion like Christianity.

 

In the middle of this Roman Empire culture a brand-new group appears out of nowhere. It starts in the most non-descript little corner of the Roman Empire – the armpit – in a place called Israel. They give this group a derogatory name – Christians which means “little Christ.” Because they follow and try to act like their leader – Jesus.

 

Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile. 17 This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”

 

I am not ashamed…

Paul has just gone public.

 

I am not ashamed.

The good news, the gospel is the message that contains the power of God.

The good news is an active power.

The good news is a saving power.

The good news is good news for anyone who will believe.

It’s good news for the rich.

It’s good news for the poor.

It’s good news for the white.

It is good news for the black.

It is good news for the Brown.

It is good news for the yellow.

It is good news for the men.

It is good news for the women.

It is good news for the children.

It is good news for the slave.

It is good news for the abused.

It is good news for the broken.

And then he explains that the good news is the story of how God makes us right in his sight through Jesus Christ so we can enjoy God forever. The good news is that through Jesus Christ a door has been opened back to God. And that this door is the most important door anyone will ever walk through.

 

The Gospel…according to Peter

 

Acts 2:22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24 God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.

 

Acts 2:32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing.

 

Acts 2:36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.

 

Acts 2:38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” 40 And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.”

 

That was the first gospel that was preached.

 

The gospel is this…

Ephesians 2:1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil…— he is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God.

 

4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

 

The good news is that Jesus has done something to save us from the penalty of sin – in this life and the life to come.

 

The good news is that God raises dead people to life.

The good news is that God unites us to Jesus Christ.

The good news is that God gives new life for old life.

The good news is that God wants to share his incredible wealth of grace in kindness toward us. Starting in this life and going to eternity.

The good news is that we can walk through this life with the fullness and wholeness that is provided by Jesus living inside of us.

The good news is that he loved us so much that is giving all of this as a gift for anyone who by faith will receive it.

 

I am part of the fellowship of the unashamed.

I have Holy Spirit power.

The die has been cast.

I have stepped over the line.

The decision has been made.

I am a disciple of His.

 

I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still.

My past is redeemed.

My present makes sense.

My future is secure.

 

I’m finished with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, worldly talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals.

 

I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, or popularity.

I don’t have to be right, first, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded.

I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, am uplifted by prayer and labor by power.

My pace is set.

My walk is fast.

My goal is heaven.

My road is narrow.

My way is rough.

My companions are few.  

My guide is reliable, and my mission is clear.

I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, or delayed.

 

I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, pander at the pool of popularity or meander in the maze of mediocrity.

 

I won’t give up, shut up, let up, until I’ve stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, preached up for the cause of Christ.

 

I am a disciple of Jesus. I must go till He comes, give ’til I drop, preach till all know, and work till He stops me.

And when He comes for His own, He’ll have no problem recognizing me. My banner will be clear!

No se avergüenzan del Evangelio

 

Hoy comenzamos una nueva serie de mensajes que nos llevarán al mes de mayo. Se llama salir a bolsa.

 

Quiero transportarte de vuelta al mundo en el que fue escrito el Nuevo Testamento. Estamos hablando de vivir en el Imperio Romano en el año 60 d.C. El Imperio Romano era una estructura de gobierno opresiva y anti-Dios. Está dedicado a la opulencia. Aplasta a cualquier competidor que venga a desafiarlo, ya sea una fuerza militar de otro país o una nueva religión como el cristianismo.

 

En medio de esta cultura del Imperio Romano, un nuevo grupo aparece de la nada. Comienza en el rincón más anodino del Imperio Romano, la axila, en un lugar llamado Israel. Le dan a este grupo un nombre despectivo: cristianos, que significa “pequeño Cristo”. Porque siguen y tratan de actuar como su líder: Jesús.

 

Romanos 1:16 Porque no me avergüenzo de esta Buena Noticia acerca de Cristo. Es el poder de Dios obrando, salvando a todos los que creen, al judío primero y también al gentil. 17 Estas Buenas Nuevas nos dicen cómo Dios nos hace justos delante de él. Esto se logra de principio a fin por la fe. Como dicen las Escrituras: “Es por medio de la fe que el justo tiene vida”.

 

No me avergüenzo…

Paul acaba de hacerlo público.

 

No me avergüenzo.

La buena noticia, el evangelio es el mensaje que contiene el poder de Dios.

La buena noticia es un poder activo.

La buena noticia es un poder salvador.

La buena noticia es una buena noticia para cualquiera que crea.

Es una buena noticia para los ricos.

Es una buena noticia para los pobres.

Es una buena noticia para el blanco.

Es una buena noticia para los negros.

Es una buena noticia para los Brown.

Es una buena noticia para el amarillo.

Es una buena noticia para los hombres.

Es una buena noticia para las mujeres.

Es una buena noticia para los niños.

Es una buena noticia para el esclavo.

Es una buena noticia para los abusados.

Es una buena noticia para los quebrantados.

Y luego explica que las buenas nuevas son la historia de cómo Dios nos hace justos a sus ojos a través de Jesucristo para que podamos disfrutar de Dios para siempre. La buena noticia es que a través de Jesucristo se ha abierto una puerta de regreso a Dios. Y que esta puerta es la puerta más importante por la que alguien entrará.

 

El Evangelio… según Pedro

 

Hechos 2:22 Varones israelitas, oíd estas palabras: Jesús de Nazaret, varón que Dios os ha dado testimonio de las maravillas, de los prodigios y de las señales que Dios hizo por medio de él en medio de vosotros, como vosotros mismos sabéis, 23 a este Jesús, entregado según el plan definido y la presciencia de Dios, vosotros crucificado y muerto por manos de hombres impíos. 24 Dios lo levantó, soltando los dolores de la muerte, porque no le era posible ser retenido por ella.

 

Hechos 2:32 A este Jesús Dios lo levantó, y de esto todos nosotros somos testigos. 33 Por tanto, exaltado a la diestra de Dios, y habiendo recibido del Padre la promesa del Espíritu Santo, ha derramado esto que vosotros mismos veis y oís.

 

Hechos 2:36 Sepa, pues, con certeza toda la casa de Israel, que Dios le ha hecho Señor y Cristo, a este Jesús a quien vosotros crucificasteis.

 

Hechos 2:38 Y Pedro les dijo: Arrepentíos, y bautícese cada uno de vosotros en el nombre de Jesucristo para perdón de vuestros pecados, y recibiréis el don del Espíritu Santo. 39 Porque la promesa es para ti, para tus hijos y para todos los que están lejos, para todos los que el Señor nuestro Dios llama a sí. 40 Y con muchas otras palabras daba testimonio, y continuaba exhortándolos, diciendo: Sálvate de esta generación perversa.

 

Ese fue el primer evangelio que se predicó.

 

El evangelio es este…

Efesios 2:1 Una vez estuviste muerto a causa de tu desobediencia y de tus muchos pecados. 2 Ustedes solían vivir en pecado, al igual que el resto del mundo, obedeciendo al diablo… él es el espíritu que obra en los corazones de los que se niegan a obedecer a Dios.

 

4 Pero Dios es tan rico en misericordia, y nos amó tanto, 5 que aunque estábamos muertos a causa de nuestros pecados, nos dio vida cuando resucitó a Cristo de entre los muertos. (¡Es solo por la gracia de Dios que has sido salvo!) 6 Porque él nos resucitó de entre los muertos juntamente con Cristo, y nos sentó con él en las regiones celestiales, porque estamos unidos a Cristo Jesús. 7 De modo que Dios puede señalarnos en todas las edades futuras como ejemplos de la increíble riqueza de su gracia y bondad para con nosotros, como se muestra en todo lo que ha hecho por nosotros que estamos unidos a Cristo Jesús.

 

La buena noticia es que Jesús ha hecho algo para salvarnos del castigo del pecado, en esta vida y en la venidera.

 

La buena noticia es que Dios resucita a los muertos.

La buena noticia es que Dios nos une a Jesucristo.

La buena noticia es que Dios da nueva vida para la vida vieja.

La buena noticia es que Dios quiere compartir su increíble riqueza de gracia en bondad hacia nosotros. Comenzando en esta vida y yendo a la eternidad.

La buena noticia es que podemos caminar por esta vida con la plenitud y la plenitud que nos proporciona Jesús viviendo dentro de nosotros.

La buena noticia es que Él nos amó tanto que está dando todo esto como un regalo para cualquiera que por fe lo reciba.

 

Soy parte de la hermandad de los que no tienen vergüenza.

Tengo el poder del Espíritu Santo.

La suerte está echada.

Me he pasado de la raya.

La decisión está tomada.

Soy un discípulo suyo.

 

No miraré hacia atrás, no me detendré, no disminuiré la velocidad, retrocederé ni me quedaré quieto.

Mi pasado ha sido redimido.

Mi presente tiene sentido.

Mi futuro está asegurado.

 

He terminado con la vida baja, el caminar a la vista, la planificación pequeña, las rodillas suaves, los sueños incoloros, las visiones domesticadas, las conversaciones mundanas, las donaciones baratas y las metas empequeñecidas.

 

Ya no necesito preeminencia, prosperidad, posición, ascensos o popularidad.

No tengo que tener razón, primero, ser reconocido, elogiado, considerado o recompensado.

Ahora vivo por fe, me apoyo en Su presencia, camino por paciencia, soy edificado por la oración y trabajo por el poder.

Mi ritmo está marcado.

Mi camino es rápido.

Mi meta es el cielo.

Mi camino es angosto.

Mi camino es áspero.

Mis compañeros son pocos.

Mi guía es confiable y mi misión es clara.

No puedo ser comprado, comprometido, desviado, atraído, rechazado, engañado o retrasado.

 

No me acobardaré ante el sacrificio, no vacilaré ante la presencia del adversario, no negociaré en la mesa del enemigo, no me acobardaré en el estanque de la popularidad ni me merodearé por el laberinto de la mediocridad.

 

No me daré por vencido, me callaré, me detendré, hasta que me haya quedado despierto, almacenado, orado, pagado, predicado por la causa de Cristo.

 

Soy discípulo de Jesús. Debo ir hasta que Él venga, dar hasta que caiga, predicar hasta que todos lo sepan, y trabajar hasta que Él me detenga.

Y cuando Él venga por los Suyos, Él no tendrá ningún problema en reconocerme. ¡Mi bandera será clara!

 

 

¡Veamos lo que DIOS puede hacer!
