Above and Beyond – Immeasurable Grace and Kindness

Our mighty God lives in the realm of the above and beyond.

• His thoughts are above and beyond our thoughts.
• His ways are above and beyond our ways.
• His words and the wisdom and knowledge they convey are above and beyond any human words.
• His creation is above and beyond scientific explanation.
• His actions are above and beyond our understanding.
• The sheer magnitude of his power is above and beyond our ability to measure it.
• And his ultimate redemptive plan for this world is above and beyond our comprehension.
• In his dealings in your life are above and beyond what you might expect.

 

Last week we discovered this verse…

Ephesians 3:20  Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

 

The dimension God lives in is above and beyond. In his dimension he hears what you ask, he knows what you think, but he goes far above all that we ask or think. He does it so that we will give him glory.

 

Ephesians 2:7 …so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

 

Immeasurable means that God is above and beyond in how gives grace.

 

As a follower of Jesus I am walking daily with the God who is giving me above and beyond immeasurable riches of his favor – he gives them freely without reservation or limit any doesn’t give them based on my performance.

 

There is no limit to this grace.

There is no ending point.

There is no exhaustion.

 

We like to sing about amazing grace but grace is really a dirty word. You find that the power of real grace is found in the most rotten and stinking gutters and is reserved for the lowest of the low people. Jesus applied lavish, huge quantities of grace to the most problematic people and in the darkest places of life.

• You might say that Jesus was sloppy with grace.
• His grace invited a thief on the cross to be in paradise.
• He shared meals with scandalous sinners.
• His grace was given to people he healed who never thanked him.
• This grace was given a people who had no faith.
• How much grace was given to his clumsy disciples?
• What about the times he raised dead people who never asked for it or expressed faith?
• And the grace that he freely gave to demon possessed people.

 

What is this immeasurable – above and beyond – grace?

 

Grace – the moment that we deserve the worst, because we are at our worst, God shows up and does for us what we cannot do for ourselves. He delivers his best at our worst. Freely he does this.

 

Grace – when you can’t change anything and you deserve nothing and yet you get everything.

 

Grace – getting what we need most at the very moment that we deserve it the least. And the one who gives it, gives it as a gift and without any way to pay back.

 

Grace – grace costs everything for the giver, nothing for the recipient.

 

Grace – grace is God responding to things that should bring condemnation but instead the response is kindness, patience, gentleness, goodness and love.

 

Grace – it is God freely acting in your life to produce real outcomes through his power or influence.

 

Grace – a gift that is unrepayable. A gift that is unearned. A gift that is underserved. And yet a gift that is freely given.

 

Ephesians 2:1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

 

This Scripture starts out rather dire. Theologians call this the depravity of man.

 

Ephesians 2:4  But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

 

What does grace do?

Grace doesn’t just give a benign pat on the back and say, “I love you.”

But grace delivers.

Grace makes us alive.

We gain a new identity.

We are no longer Children of wrath, now we are children of God.

We are made alive together with Christ.

Paul calls it being saved.

But he doesn’t stop there.

We have been raised with him.

And in some strange way we been seated with him in heavenly places.

 

Grace is an act of God.

Grace is the act of God to give you what you don’t deserve.

Grace is the act of God that makes you alive in the fullest sense of the word.

Grace is the act of God that raises you up and puts you in a heavenly place and puts heaven inside of you.

 

This is above and beyond – immeasurable – rich – kind – grace. Freely given to the most undeserving.

Por encima y más allá: gracia y bondad inconmensurables

Nuestro poderoso Dios vive en el reino de lo superior y del más allá.

• Sus pensamientos están por encima y más allá de nuestros pensamientos.
• Sus caminos están por encima y más allá de nuestros caminos.
• Sus palabras y la sabiduría y el conocimiento que transmiten están por encima y más allá de cualquier palabra humana.
• Su creación está por encima y más allá de la explicación científica.
• Sus acciones están más allá de nuestra comprensión.
• La magnitud de su poder está por encima y más allá de nuestra capacidad para medirlo.
• Y su último plan redentor para este mundo está más allá de nuestra comprensión.
• En sus tratos en tu vida están por encima y más allá de lo que podrías esperar.

 

La semana pasada descubrimos este versículo…

Efesios 3:20 Y al que es poderoso para hacer mucho más abundantemente de lo que pedimos o entendemos, según el poder que actúa en nosotros, 21 a él sea la gloria en la iglesia y en Cristo Jesús por todas las generaciones, por los siglos de los siglos. Amén.

 

La dimensión en la que Dios vive está por encima y más allá. En su dimensión escucha lo que le preguntas, sabe lo que piensas, pero va mucho más allá de todo lo que te pedimos o pensamos. Lo hace para que le demos gloria.

 

Efesios 2:7 … para que en los siglos venideros mostrara las riquezas inconmensurables de su gracia en bondad para con nosotros en Cristo Jesús.

 

Inconmensurable significa que Dios está por encima y más allá en la forma en que da la gracia.

 

Como seguidor de Jesús, estoy caminando diariamente con el Dios que me está dando más allá de las riquezas inconmensurables de su favor: él las da gratuitamente, sin reservas ni límites, cualquiera que no las dé en función de mi desempeño.

 

No hay límite para esta gracia.

No hay un punto final.

No hay agotamiento.

 

Nos gusta cantar sobre la gracia asombrosa, pero la gracia es realmente una mala palabra. Descubres que el poder de la verdadera gracia se encuentra en las alcantarillas más podridas y apestosas y está reservado para los más humildes de los humildes. Jesús aplicó grandes cantidades de gracia a las personas más problemáticas y en los lugares más oscuros de la vida.

• Se podría decir que Jesús fue descuidado con la gracia.
• Su gracia invitó a un ladrón en la cruz a estar en el paraíso.
• Compartía comidas con pecadores escandalosos.
• Su gracia fue dada a las personas que sanó y que nunca le dieron las gracias.
• Esta gracia fue dada a un pueblo que no tenía fe.
• ¿Cuánta gracia se dio a sus torpes discípulos?
• ¿Qué hay de las veces que resucitó a personas muertas que nunca lo pidieron ni expresaron fe?
• Y la gracia que dio gratuitamente a las personas poseídas por demonios.

 

¿Qué es esta gracia inconmensurable, por encima y más allá?

 

Gracia: en el momento en que merecemos lo peor, porque estamos en nuestro peor momento, Dios aparece y hace por nosotros lo que no podemos hacer por nosotros mismos. Da lo mejor de sí mismo en los peores. Lo hace libremente.

 

Gracia: cuando no puedes cambiar nada y no mereces nada y, sin embargo, lo obtienes todo.

 

Gracia: obtener lo que más necesitamos en el momento en que menos lo merecemos. Y el que lo da, lo da como un regalo y sin ninguna forma de devolverlo.

 

Gracia: la gracia cuesta todo para el que la da, nada para el que la recibe.

 

Gracia: la gracia es Dios respondiendo a cosas que deberían traer condenación, pero en cambio la respuesta es la bondad, la paciencia, la gentileza, la bondad y el amor.

 

Gracia: es Dios actuando libremente en tu vida para producir resultados reales a través de su poder o influencia.

 

La gracia, un regalo que no se puede devolver. Un regalo que no se ha ganado. Un regalo que está desatendido. Y, sin embargo, un regalo que se da gratuitamente.

 

Efesios 2:1 Y estabais muertos en los delitos y pecados 2   en que anduvisteis en otro tiempo, siguiendo la corriente de este mundo, siguiendo al príncipe de la potestad del aire, el espíritu que ahora actúa en los hijos de desobediencia, 3 entre los cuales todos nosotros vivíamos en otro tiempo en las pasiones de nuestra carne,  llevando a cabo los deseos del cuerpo y de la mente, y eran por naturaleza hijos de ira, como el resto de la humanidad.

 

Esta Escritura comienza siendo bastante terrible. Los teólogos llaman a esto la depravación del hombre.

 

Efesios 2:4 Mas Dios, siendo rico en misericordia, por el gran amor con que nos amó, 5 aun estando nosotros muertos en nuestros pecados, nos dio vida juntamente con Cristo, por gracia sois salvos, 6  y nos resucitó juntamente con él, y nos sentó juntamente con él en los lugares celestiales en Cristo Jesús,  7  para que en los siglos venideros muestre las inconmensurables riquezas de su gracia en bondad para con nosotros en Cristo Jesús. 8 Porque por gracia sois salvos por medio de la fe. Y esto no es obra tuya; es don de Dios, 9 no por obras, para que nadie se gloríe.

 

¿Qué hace la gracia?

Grace no solo da una palmadita benigna en la espalda y dice: “Te amo”.

Pero la gracia cumple.

La gracia nos da vida.

Ganamos una nueva identidad.

Ya no somos hijos de ira, ahora somos hijos de Dios.

Somos vivificados junto con Cristo.

Pablo lo llama ser salvo.

Pero no se detiene ahí.

Nos hemos criado con él.

Y de alguna extraña manera nos sentamos con él en lugares celestiales.

 

La gracia es un acto de Dios.

La gracia es el acto de Dios para darte lo que no mereces.

La gracia es el acto de Dios que te da vida en el sentido más completo de la palabra.

La gracia es el acto de Dios que te levanta y te pone en un lugar celestial y pone el cielo dentro de ti.

 

Esto está por encima y más allá de la gracia inconmensurable, rica y amable. Regalado a los más indignos.

 

¡Veamos lo que DIOS puede hacer!
