Christmas Eve

John 1:4 The Word (Jesus) gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.

5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

Colossians 1:13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

1 John 1:5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.

John 8:12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”

It seems that all the bad things happen in the darkness, and many of us, at some point in our lives, have probably been afraid of the dark.

When the Bible talks about darkness, it is symbolically talking about a place where God is absent.

When we abandon God, when we turn away from God, we plunge ourselves and this world into the darkness.

Romans 1:28 Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. 29 Their lives became full of every kind of wickedness, sin, greed, hate, envy, murder, quarreling, deception, malicious behavior, and gossip. 30 They are backstabbers, haters of God, insolent, proud, and boastful. They invent new ways of sinning, and they disobey their parents. 31 They refuse to understand, break their promises, are heartless, and have no mercy.

This is exactly who we are without God.

But there, in the middle of the darkness, is a light.

1 John 1:5 This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.

The scariness of the dark is broken by light.

Jesus sends the cockroaches scurrying.

Jesus is the light that all the darkness and the world can never extinguish, can never stop, can never overwhelm, can never consume and can never defeat.

The darkness will never win.

Jesus brings life and light.

And Jesus will never lose to the darkness.

• Jesus heals what darkness steals
• Jesus clarifies what darkness confuses
• Jesus reveals what darkness conceals
• Jesus fixes what darkness breaks
• Jesus illuminates what darkness hides
• Jesus wins back what darkness has lost
• Jesus gives joy where darkness has brought sorrow
• Jesus restores what darkness has disfigured
• Jesus  untangles what darkness tangles

The gospel is what Jesus does for us, not what we do for Jesus.

• It is what lengths Jesus will go for us, not how far we will go for him.
• The good news is Jesus’ resolve for us, not our resolve for him.
• The good news is Jesus’ strength for us, not our strength for him.
• The good news is how Jesus seeks us, not how much we seek him.

Let’s see what GOD can do!

Juan 1:4 El Verbo (Jesús) dio vida a todo lo que fue creado, y su vida trajo luz a todos.
5 La luz resplandece en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no pueden extinguirla.

Colosenses 1:13 Porque nos ha librado del reino de las tinieblas, y nos ha trasladado al reino de su amado Hijo, 14  el cual compró nuestra libertad y perdonó nuestros pecados.

1 Juan 1:5 Este es el mensaje que oímos de Jesús, y que ahora os anunciamos: Dios es luz, y no hay oscuridad en él.

Juan 8:12 Jesús habló a la gente una vez más y dijo: “Yo soy la luz del mundo. Si me sigues, no tendrás que andar en tinieblas, porque tendrás la luz que lleva a la vida”.

Parece que todas las cosas malas suceden en la oscuridad, y muchos de nosotros, en algún momento de nuestras vidas, probablemente hemos tenido miedo a la oscuridad.

Cuando la Biblia habla de tinieblas, simbólicamente está hablando de un lugar donde Dios está ausente.

Cuando abandonamos a Dios, cuando nos alejamos de Dios, nos sumergimos a nosotros mismos y a este mundo en la oscuridad.

Romanos 1:28 Y como les pareció insensato reconocer a Dios, él los abandonó a sus necios pensamientos, y les permitió hacer cosas que nunca debían hacerse. 29 Sus vidas se llenaron de toda clase de maldad, pecado, avaricia, odio, envidia, homicidio, riña, engaño, maldad y chismes. 30 Son traidores, aborrecedores de Dios, insolentes, soberbios y jactanciosos. Inventan nuevas formas de pecar y desobedecen a sus padres. 31 Se niegan a entender, rompen sus promesas, son despiadados y no tienen piedad.

Esto es exactamente lo que somos sin Dios.

Pero allí, en medio de la oscuridad, hay una luz.

1 Juan 1:5 Este es el mensaje que oímos de Jesús, y que ahora os anunciamos: Dios es luz, y no hay oscuridad en él.

El miedo de la oscuridad es roto por la luz.

Jesús hace que las cucarachas corran.

Jesús es la luz que toda la oscuridad y el mundo nunca pueden extinguir, nunca pueden detenerse, nunca pueden abrumar, nunca pueden consumir y nunca pueden vencer.

La oscuridad nunca ganará.

Jesús trae vida y luz.

Y Jesús nunca perderá en la oscuridad.

• Jesús sana lo que la oscuridad roba
• Jesús aclara lo que confunde la oscuridad
• Jesús revela lo que oculta la oscuridad
• Jesús arregla lo que la oscuridad rompe
• Jesús ilumina lo que esconde la oscuridad
• Jesús recupera lo que las tinieblas han perdido
• Jesús da alegría donde la oscuridad ha traído tristeza
• Jesús restaura lo que las tinieblas han desfigurado
• Jesús desenreda lo que enreda la oscuridad

El evangelio es lo que Jesús hace por nosotros, no lo que nosotros hacemos por Jesús.

• Se trata de hasta dónde llegará Jesús por nosotros, no hasta dónde llegaremos nosotros por él.
• La buena noticia es la determinación de Jesús por nosotros, no nuestra determinación por él.
• La buena noticia es la fuerza de Jesús para nosotros, no nuestra fuerza para él.
• La buena noticia es cómo Jesús nos busca, no cuánto lo buscamos nosotros.

¡Veamos lo que DIOS puede hacer!
