Joy

Here we are in the third week of Advent – the 30 days leading up to Christmas. In these 30 days, we explore the four great themes that exploded onto the earth with the coming of Jesus. Last week we looked at love. We looked at hope. Next week we will look at peace. But today, we focus in on joy.

 

With our modern technology we don’t do this as much as we use to, but our cars are all equipped with a radio. The funny thing about a radio is that you have to have your dial tuned to a specific place to get the station. I don’t know if you know this or not but there is a station in the heavens that is constantly playing the songs of God.

 

What does that station sound like?

 

Revelation 5:11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might

and honor and glory and blessing!”

13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying,

“To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!”

 

Revelation 15:3  And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,

“Great and amazing are your deeds,

    O Lord God the Almighty!

Just and true are your ways,

    O King of the nations!

4 Who will not fear, O Lord,

    and glorify your name?

For you alone are holy.

    All nations will come

    and worship you,

for your righteous acts have been revealed.

 

The song of heaven is a never ending song of complete and utter fascination and amazement at the awesomeness of who God is and what God has done.

 

Then one day this happens… Heavens song breaks forth upon the earth at the first Christmas…

 

Luke 2:8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.

 

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest,

    and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

 

The music of heaven breaks through the earth.

It’s the good news of great joy.

It’s the good news that brings great joy.

And is great joy for all the people.

 

This concept of joy shows up in a profound way not just at the beginning of Jesus’s life, but also at the end of the life of Jesus and his resurrection.

 

John 15:11 These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

 

John 16:22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.

 

And then this happened…

 

Mark 16:5 When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked, 6 but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body. 7 Now go and tell his disciples…

 

There is exuberant joy at the beginning of Jesus breaking into this planet, and there is exuberant joy at the resurrection of Jesus. Joy is the music of the angels and the music of heaven.

 

Defining joy – Joy is a good feeling in the soul that is rooted in Jesus and comes from Jesus. Joy produces energy within us. Joy is a cheerful heart. Joy is an inner gladness. But again, joy is rooted not in our circumstances, but in Jesus – that he has come, that he has won, that he is working, and that he is coming again.

 

Potential joy killers in life.

• Comparison usually teams up with envy and jealousy.

• Perfectionism

• Toxic and drama driven people.

• Fear is one of the major joy stealers. Fear of the future. Worry. Anxiety. Fear is when we declare that God is not enough, that God is not in control.

• Busyness, chaos and being overwhelmed

• Bitterness and resentment.

• And there are many others that steal our joy. Guilt and shame and unforgiveness. Nostalgia. Entitlement and selfishness. The constant way we condemn ourselves. Or the constant need to feel bad about ourselves. Or disappointment.

 

You are created to experience joy. The music of heaven is joy.

 

Psalm 118:24 This is the day that the Lord has made;

    let us rejoice and be glad in it.

 

Nehemiah 8:10  Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

 

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

 

Galatians 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy….

Alegría

Aquí estamos en la tercera semana de Adviento, los 30 días previos a la Navidad. En estos 30 días, exploramos los cuatro grandes temas que irrumpieron en la tierra con la venida de Jesús. La semana pasada vimos el amor. Nos fijamos en la esperanza. La semana que viene veremos la paz. Pero hoy, nos centramos en la alegría.

 

Con nuestra tecnología moderna no hacemos esto tanto como solíamos hacerlo, pero todos nuestros coches están equipados con una radio. Lo curioso de una radio es que tienes que tener el dial sintonizado en un lugar específico para obtener la emisora. No sé si lo sabes o no, pero hay una estación en los cielos que está constantemente tocando las canciones de Dios.

 

¿Cómo suena esa estación?

 

Apocalipsis 5:11 Entonces miré, y oí alrededor del trono, y de los seres vivientes y de los ancianos, la voz de muchos ángeles, que eran millares de miríadas y millares de millares, 12 que  decían a gran voz:

“¡Digno es el Cordero que fue inmolado, de recibir poder, riquezas, sabiduría, fortaleza, honra, gloria y bendición!”

13 Y oí a toda criatura en el cielo y en la tierra, debajo de la tierra y en el mar, y todo lo que hay en ellos, diciendo:

“¡Al que está sentado en el trono y al Lambbe bendición, honra, gloria y poder por los siglos de los siglos!”

 

Apocalipsis 15:3 Y cantan el cántico de Moisés, siervo de Dios, y el cántico del Cordero, diciendo:

“¡Grandes y asombrosas son tus obras, oh Señor Dios Todopoderoso! ¡Justos y verdaderos son tus caminos, oh Rey de las naciones!
4 ¿Quién no temerá, oh Señor, y glorificará tu nombre? Porque solo tú eres santo.    Todas las naciones vendrán
 y te adorarán, porque tus obras justas han sido reveladas.

 

El canto del cielo es un canto interminable de completa y absoluta fascinación y asombro ante la maravilla de quién es Dios y lo que Dios ha hecho.

 

Entonces, un día sucede esto… El canto de los cielos estalla sobre la tierra en la primera Navidad…

 

Lucas 2:8 Y en aquella región había pastores en el campo, que vigilaban sus rebaños de noche. 9 Y se les apareció un ángel del Señor, y la gloria del Señor resplandeció alrededor de ellos, y se llenaron de gran temor. 10 Y el ángel les dijo: No temáis, porque he aquí, os traigo buenas nuevas de gran gozo que serán para todo el pueblo.

 

11 Porque os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es Cristo el Señor. 12 Y esto les servirá de señal: encontrarán a un niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre. 13 Y de repente apareció con el ángel una multitud de las huestes celestiales que alababan a Dios y decían:

14 «¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz a los que le agradan!»

 

La música del cielo irrumpe en la tierra.

Es la buena noticia de una gran alegría.

Son las buenas nuevas las que traen gran alegría.

Y es una gran alegría para todo el pueblo.

 

Este concepto de alegría se manifiesta de manera profunda no solo al comienzo de la vida de Jesús, sino también al final de la vida de Jesús y su resurrección.

 

Juan 15:11 Estas cosas os he hablado, para que mi gozo esté en vosotros, y vuestro gozo sea cumplido.

 

Juan 16:22 Así también vosotros tenéis tristeza ahora, pero yo os volveré a ver, y vuestros corazones se alegrarán, y nadie os quitará vuestro gozo.

 

Y entonces sucedió esto…

 

Marcos 16:5 Cuando entraron en el sepulcro, vieron a un joven vestido con un manto blanco, sentado a la derecha. Las mujeres se sorprendieron, 6 pero el ángel dijo: «No se alarmen. Buscas a Jesús de Nazaret, que fue crucificado. ¡Él no está aquí! ¡Ha resucitado de entre los muertos! Mira, aquí es donde pusieron su cuerpo. 7 Ve ahora y dile a sus discípulos…

 

Hay un gozo exuberante al comienzo de la irrupción de Jesús en este planeta, y hay un gozo exuberante por la resurrección de Jesús. La alegría es la música de los ángeles y la música del cielo.

 

Definiendo la alegría – La alegría es un buen sentimiento en el alma que está arraigado en Jesús y proviene de Jesús. La alegría produce energía dentro de nosotros. La alegría es un corazón alegre. La alegría es una alegría interior. Pero, de nuevo, el gozo no está arraigado en nuestras circunstancias, sino en Jesús: que ha venido, que ha ganado, que está trabajando y que viene de nuevo.

 

Potenciales asesinos de la alegría en la vida.

• Comparación. La comparación suele ir acompañada de envidia y celos.
• Fullkomnunarárátta.
• Personas tóxicas e impulsadas por el drama.
• El miedo es uno de los mayores ladrones de alegría. Miedo al futuro. Preocuparse. Ansiedad. El miedo es cuando declaramos que Dios no es suficiente, que Dios no tiene el control.
• Ajetreo, caos y agobio
• Amargura y resentimiento.
• Y hay muchos otros que nos roban la alegría. La culpa, la vergüenza y la falta de perdón. Nostalgia. El derecho y el egoísmo. La forma constante en que nos condenamos a nosotros mismos. O la necesidad constante de sentirnos mal con nosotros mismos. O decepción.

 

Has sido creado para experimentar alegría. La música del cielo es alegría.

 

Salmo 118:24 Este es el día que hizo Jehová;    regocijémonos y alegrémonos en ella.

 

Nehemías 8:10 Y les dijo: Id. Comed la grasa, bebed vino dulce y enviad porciones a cualquiera que no tenga nada preparado, porque este día es santo para nuestro Señor. Y no te entristezcas, porque el gozo del Señor es tu fortaleza”.

 

Filipenses 4:4 Regocijaos en el Señor siempre; otra vez diré: regocijaos.

 

Gálatas 5:22 Mas el fruto del Espíritu es amor, gozo…

 

¡Veamos lo que DIOS puede hacer!
