Mission Statement

Mission Statement

For the last 1 ½ years there has been a team of people in this church working on a new church governance structure, which we will vote on in November. One of the pieces of the puzzle was to have a very clear and concise mission statement.

 

Here is the mission statement;

 

Riverside exists to create life-changing encounters with Jesus. 

1. Encounters through worship gatherings. Our priority will be to create an atmosphere of freedom where the Holy Spirit is welcomed and working, the good news is proclaimed and where Jesus is at the center of everything. (Hebrews 10:25. Matthew 18:20). 

2. Encounters through discipleship. Our priority will be to grow believers into the fullness of who God called them to be. (Ephesians 4:13). 

3. Encounters through outreach. Our priority will be to reach our world by being a light to our community and beyond. We will seek ways to penetrate the darkness and invite the lost to experience the love of Jesus. (Matthew 28:16 – 20) 

4. Encounters through service. Our priority will be to raise up believers with the heart of service to the church and to the world. (Matthew 23:11). 

 

We are here to create life-changing encounters with Jesus.

 

1 Corinthians 2:1 And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

 

We are resolved here at Riverside – like Paul – that it has to be Jesus who is front and center. Jesus is the draw. Jesus is the main thing. Our confidence is not in our presentation or performance – our confidence is that when we lift up Jesus people will be drawn to him. We know that there is power in the name of Jesus.

 

When we talk about encountering Jesus, what are we saying? We are saying what John said;

 

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 (John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”) 16 For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.

 

People encountered three things in Jesus –

1. Glory.
2. Grace.
3. Truth.

 

Glory. When you encounter Jesus, you will encounter glory.

 

We also want people to encounter his grace.

 

Grace is essentially a God who gives you everything when you deserve nothing. He exchanges his gifts for your rags. Grace is God’s complete acceptance in favor even though he’s not obligated to give it to you.

 

There’s one more word in that verse; glory, grace and truth.

 

When you encounter Jesus, just like when John encountered Jesus, he didn’t find more laws and more religion, he found the son of God, Jesus. And he found truth.

 

Truth is reality. Truth is what is real. Jesus is real. Everything about Jesus is real. Everything Jesus says is real. Jesus is the truth. And who he is and what he says is unalterable.

 

An encounter with Jesus is a decisive, orbit shifting moment of life. For some people they walk away resistant, hard, unyielding.

 

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;

 

God gave us the ministry of reconciling people with himself. Our business as a church is to create encounters where people can be reconciled with God.

Our prayer and our passion must be; “Jesus, do something more than what we can see. Show up. Let loose your power. Do the unexpected. Go beyond our music. Go beyond the sermon. Go beyond what we have studied. Pour out the spirit that can’t be stopped. The spirit that convicts of sin. The spirit that convicts that there is a new life in Christ. The spirit that convicts that Satan has been judged.”

 

Four points from our mission statement – four ways that encounters can happen. 

1. We want to encounter Jesus when we gather together in worship. 

2. We want to encounter Jesus when we gather together in smaller groups. Where two or three gather in the name of Jesus he is happy to attend. 

3. We want to those who don’t know Jesus to encounter him through our outreach efforts. We hope to create moments where the spirit can break through. 

4. We want to encounter Jesus by serving. When we serve we encounter Jesus because we need his enabling power. But we are also creating moments of encounter for those we are serving.

Declaración de objetivos

Durante el último año y medio ha habido un equipo de personas en esta iglesia trabajando en una nueva estructura de gobierno de la iglesia, que votaremos en noviembre. Una de las piezas del rompecabezas era tener una declaración de misión muy clara y concisa.

 

Aquí está la declaración de la misión;

 

Riverside existe para crear encuentros con Jesús que cambien la vida.

1. Encuentros a través de reuniones de adoración. Nuestra prioridad será crear un clima de libertad donde el Espíritu Santo sea acogido y actúe, donde se proclame la buena nueva y donde Jesús esté en el centro de todo. (Hebreos 10:25. Mateo 18:20).

2. Encuentros a través del discipulado. Nuestra prioridad será hacer crecer a los creyentes en la plenitud de lo que Dios los llamó a ser. (Efesios 4:13).

3. Encuentros a través de la divulgación. Nuestra prioridad será llegar a nuestro mundo siendo una luz para nuestra comunidad y más allá. Buscaremos formas de penetrar en la oscuridad e invitar a los perdidos a experimentar el amor de Jesús. (Mateo 28:16-20)

4. Encuentros a través del servicio. Nuestra prioridad será levantar creyentes con el corazón de servicio a la iglesia y al mundo. (Mateo 23:11).

 

Estamos aquí para crear encuentros con Jesús que cambien la vida.

 

1 Corintios 2:1 Y yo, hermanos, cuando vine a vosotros, no he venido anunciándoos el testimonio de Dios con altivez ni con sabiduría. 2 Porque me propuse no saber nada entre vosotros, sino a Jesucristo, y a éste crucificado. 3 Y estuve con vosotros en debilidad, en temor y en mucho temblor, 4  y mi palabra y mi mensaje no fueron con palabras plausibles de sabiduría, sino con demostración del Espíritu y de poder, 5 para que vuestra fe no descanse en la sabiduría de los hombres, sino en el poder de Dios.

 

Estamos decididos aquí en Riverside, como Pablo, a que tiene que ser Jesús quien esté al frente y al centro. Jesús es el atractivo. Jesús es lo principal. Nuestra confianza no está en nuestra presentación o actuación, nuestra confianza es que cuando levantemos a Jesús, la gente se sentirá atraída hacia él. Sabemos que hay poder en el nombre de Jesús.

 

Cuando hablamos de encontrarnos con Jesús, ¿qué estamos diciendo? Estamos diciendo lo que Juan dijo;

 

Juan 1:14 Y el Verbo se hizo carne, y habitó entre nosotros, y hemos visto su gloria, gloria como del unigénito del Padre, lleno de gracia y de verdad. 15 Juan dio testimonio de él, y exclamó: «Este es aquel de quien dije: ‘El que viene detrás de mí está delante de mí, porque fue antes que yo.'”) 16 Porque de su plenitud todos hemos recibido, gracia sobre gracia.

 

La gente encontró tres cosas en Jesús:

1. Gloria.
2. Gracia.
3. Verdad.

 

Gloria. Cuando te encuentres con Jesús, encontrarás gloria.

 

También queremos que la gente se encuentre con su gracia.

 

La gracia es esencialmente un Dios que te da todo cuando no mereces nada. Cambia sus regalos por tus harapos. La gracia es la aceptación completa de Dios en favor a pesar de que Él no está obligado a dártela.

 

Hay una palabra más en ese versículo: gloria, gracia y verdad.

 

Cuando te encuentras con Jesús, al igual que cuando Juan se encontró con Jesús, no encontró más leyes y más religión, encontró al hijo de Dios, Jesús. Y encontró la verdad.

 

La verdad es la realidad. La verdad es lo que es real. Jesús es real. Todo lo que tiene que ver con Jesús es real. Todo lo que Jesús dice es real. Jesús es la verdad. Y quién es él y lo que dice es inalterable.

 

Un encuentro con Jesús es un momento decisivo de la vida, que cambia de órbita. Para algunas personas se alejan resistentes, duros, inflexibles.

 

2 Corintios 5:17 Por tanto, si alguno está en Cristo, nueva criatura es. Lo viejo ha pasado; He aquí que lo nuevo ha llegado. 18 Todo esto viene de Dios, el cual por medio de Cristo nos reconcilió consigo mismo y nos dio el ministerio de la reconciliación;

 

Dios nos dio el ministerio de reconciliar a las personas con él. Nuestro trabajo como iglesia es crear encuentros donde las personas puedan reconciliarse con Dios.

Nuestra oración y nuestra pasión deben ser; “Jesús, haz algo más de lo que podemos ver. Preséntate. Da rienda suelta a tu poder. Haz lo inesperado. Ve más allá de nuestra música. Ve más allá del sermón. Ir más allá de lo que hemos estudiado. Derrama el espíritu que no se puede detener. El espíritu que convence de pecado. El espíritu que convence de que hay una nueva vida en Cristo. El espíritu que convence de que Satanás ha sido juzgado”.

 

Cuatro puntos de nuestra declaración de misión: cuatro formas en que los encuentros pueden suceder.

1. Queremos encontrarnos con Jesús cuando nos reunimos en adoración.

2. Queremos encontrarnos con Jesús cuando nos reunimos en grupos más pequeños. Donde dos o tres se reúnen en el nombre de Jesús, él está feliz de asistir.

3. Queremos que aquellos que no conocen a Jesús lo encuentren a través de nuestros esfuerzos de alcance. Esperamos crear momentos en los que el espíritu pueda abrirse paso.

4. Queremos encontrar a Jesús sirviendo. Cuando servimos, nos encontramos con Jesús porque necesitamos su poder habilitador. Pero también estamos creando momentos de encuentro para aquellos a quienes servimos.

 

¡Veamos lo que DIOS puede hacer!
