My challenge to you today is…

• When it comes to your media consumption – who are the voices that you are listening to?
• What is forming your mind? What is informing your mind? Should those things be forming you?
• In my media consumption, what are they asking me to love?
• Who are they asking me to fear or to hate?
• And what is the good life that they describe?
• And does any of this line up with Scripture?

 

Matthew 28:19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.

 

Whose disciple are you?

 

Luke 6:40 Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is fully trained will become like the teacher.

 

Matthew 28:19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.

 

Romans 12:2   Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

 

The disciples of Jesus would not look like the people of the world.

His disciples were to be transformed.

 

Do you call yourself a follower of Jesus? Is there any question about who is forming your mind and your heart?

 

Here is why I’m concerned about this.

 

There are over 2 billion cell phones in the world.

84% of teens in America own a cell phone.

These cell phones are connected to powerful corporations and tech giants. These corporations are literally hearing and watching everything that you do.

 

Their aim is to exploit you.

 

Much of social media works within algorithm that figures out who you are and what you like and then just keeps feeding it to you. Soon you are just living your life in an echo chamber of hearing the same things over and over again.

 

Clinical depression is a mood disorder characterized by ongoing feelings of sadness and loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyed. There is much proof that this is connected to cell phones.

 

Social media always appeals to the seven deadly sins…

1. Lust – pornography is pervasive within social media.
2. Gluttony – our need to consume more and more.
3. Greed – the desire for wealth.
4. Envy – wanting what other people have.
5. Sloth – laziness.
6. Wrath – anger.
7. Pride – I’m better and more important than other people.

 

Proverbs 6:16 There are six things the Lord hates,
    seven that are detestable to him:
17         haughty eyes,
        a lying tongue,
        hands that shed innocent blood,
18         a heart that devises wicked schemes,
        feet that are quick to rush into evil,
19         a false witness who pours out lies
        and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

 

Here are 10 commands that social media breaks every day…

1. Love your neighbor as yourself.
2. Pray for your enemies.
3. Flee from sexual temptation.
4. Do not covet.
5. Do not murder.
6. Lay down your life as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to the Lord.
7. Touch nothing unclean 2 Corinthians 6
8. Do not lie or misrepresent the truth.
9. There is no truth.
10. Wasting time.

 

Matthew 12:33 “A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad. 34 You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. 35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart.

 

Matthew 15:18 But the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you. 19 For from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander. 20 These are what defile you.

 

Whatever is in your heart determines what you say and do.

 

The question is; how did that stuff get into our heart?

What are you putting into your heart?

What are you allowing to go into your heart?

 

Romans 12:1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

 

While the world deals with conformity – conformity to whatever the world says is important at the moment – God deals with transformation.

 

John 15:4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me.

 

Proverbs 4:23  Guard your heart above all else,
    for it determines the course of your life.

 

Maybe we should be asking..

• What kind of relationships do we want in our family?
• What kind of lives do we want to live in our home?
• What kind of people are we becoming or want to become?
• And is our use of technology helping us to become those people?

Mi desafío para ti hoy es…

• Cuando se trata de su consumo de medios, ¿quiénes son las voces que está escuchando?
• ¿Qué está formando tu mente? ¿Qué está informando tu mente? ¿Deberían esas cosas formarte?
• En mi consumo de medios, ¿qué me piden que ame?
• ¿A quién me piden que tema u odie?
• ¿Y cuál es la buena vida que describen?
• ¿Y algo de esto se alinea con las Escrituras?

¿De quién eres discípulo?

 

Lucas 6:40 Los estudiantes no son más grandes que su maestro. Pero el estudiante que está completamente capacitado se volverá como el maestro.

Romanos 12:2 No te conformes al modelo de este mundo, sino transformaos por la renovación de vuestra mente.

 

Los discípulos de Jesús no se parecerían a la gente del mundo.

Sus discípulos debían ser transformados.

 

¿Te llamas a ti mismo un seguidor de Jesús? ¿Hay alguna pregunta acerca de quién está formando tu mente y tu corazón?

 

He aquí por qué estoy preocupado por esto.

 

Hay más de 2 mil millones de teléfonos celulares en el mundo.

El 84% de los adolescentes en Estados Unidos poseen un teléfono celular.

Estos teléfonos celulares están conectados a poderosas corporaciones y gigantes tecnológicos. Estas corporaciones están literalmente escuchando y observando todo lo que haces.

 

Su objetivo es explotarte.

 

Gran parte de las redes sociales funcionan dentro de un algoritmo que descubre quién eres y qué te gusta y luego te sigue alimentándolo. Pronto estás viviendo tu vida en una cámara de eco de escuchar las mismas cosas una y otra vez.

 

La depresión clínica es un trastorno del estado de ánimo caracterizado por sentimientos continuos de tristeza y pérdida de interés en actividades que alguna vez se disfrutaron. Hay muchas pruebas de que esto está conectado a los teléfonos celulares.

 

Las redes sociales siempre apelan a los siete pecados capitales …

1. Lujuria: la pornografía es omnipresente en las redes sociales.
2. Gula – nuestra necesidad de consumir más y más.
3. La codicia – el deseo de riqueza.
4. Envidia: querer lo que otras personas tienen.
5. Pereza – pereza.
6. Ira – ira.
7. Orgullo – Soy mejor y más importante que otras personas.

 

Proverbios 6:16 Hay seis cosas que el Señor odia, siete que son detestables para él:
17  ojos altivos, lengua mentirosa, manos que derraman sangre inocente,18
 un corazón que  inventa planes malvados, pies que se apresuran a precipitarse en el mal,19
 un falso testigo que derrama mentiras y una persona que provoca conflictos en la comunidad.

 

Aquí hay 10 comandos que las redes sociales rompen todos los días …

1. Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.
2. Ora por tus enemigos.
3. Huye de la tentación sexual.
4. No codicies.
5. No asesinen.
6. Da tu vida como sacrificio vivo santo y agradable al Señor.
7. No toques nada impuro 2 Corintios 6
8. No mientas ni tergiverses la verdad.
9. No hay verdad.
10. Perder el tiempo.

 

Mateo 12:33 “Un árbol se identifica por su fruto. Si un árbol es bueno, su fruto será bueno. Si un árbol es malo, su fruto será malo. 34 ¡Cría de serpientes! ¿Cómo podrían los hombres malos como tú hablar lo que es bueno y correcto?  Porque lo que hay en tu corazón determina lo que dices. 35  Una persona buena produce cosas buenas del tesoro de un corazón bueno, y una persona mala produce cosas malas del tesoro de un corazón malo.

 

Mateo 15:18 Pero las palabras que hablas vienen del corazón, eso es lo que te contamina. 19 Porque del corazón vienen malos pensamientos, asesinatos, adulterio, toda inmoralidad sexual, robo, mentira y calumnia. 20 Esto es lo que te contamina.

 

Lo que sea que esté en tu corazón determina lo que dices y haces.

 

La pregunta es; ¿Cómo llegaron esas cosas a nuestro corazón?

¿Qué estás poniendo en tu corazón?

¿Qué estás permitiendo que entre en tu corazón?

 

Romanos 12:1 Por lo tanto, os exhorto, hermanos y hermanas, en vista de la misericordia de Dios, a ofrecer vuestros cuerpos como sacrificio vivo, santo y agradable a Dios, esta es vuestra verdadera y apropiada adoración. 2 No te conformes al patrón de este mundo, sino transformaos mediante la renovación de vuestra mente. Entonces serás capaz de probar y aprobar cuál es la voluntad de Dios: su buena, agradable y perfecta voluntad.

 

Mientras que el mundo trata con la conformidad – la conformidad a lo que el mundo dice que es importante en este momento – Dios trata con la transformación.

 

Juan 15:4 Permanece en mí, y yo permaneceré en ti. Porque una rama no puede producir fruto si se corta de la vid, y no puedes ser fructífero a menos que permanezcas en mí.

 

Proverbios 4:23 Guarda tu corazón sobre todo, porque determina el curso de tu vida.

 

Tal vez deberíamos estar preguntando.

• ¿Qué tipo de relaciones queremos en nuestra familia?
• ¿Qué tipo de vida queremos vivir en nuestro hogar?
• ¿En qué tipo de personas nos estamos convirtiendo o queremos llegar a ser?
• ¿Y nuestro uso de la tecnología nos está ayudando a convertirnos en esas personas?

 

¡Veamos lo que Dios puede hacer!
