Crash Helmet – Psalm 51 David barely survives

Today were going to see one of the most violent head-on crashes in all the Bible. You will find the story in 2 Samuel 11 – 12.

Is an all-too-familiar story that has happened too many times. David and Bathsheba.

2 Samuel 12:7 Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul. 8 And I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your arms and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah. And if this were too little, I would add to you as much more. 9 Why have you despised the word of the Lord, to do what is evil in his sight? You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword and have taken his wife to be your wife and have killed him with the sword of the Ammonites. 10 Now therefore the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised me and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’

You are the man. Nathan is holding a mirror in front of David’s face and David is so blind to his own sin that he can’t see that is talking about him.

Then David prays the most shocking prayer.

Psalm 51:1 (NKJV) Have mercy upon me, O God,
According to Your lovingkindness;
According to the multitude of Your tender mercies,
Blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity,
And cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I acknowledge my transgressions,
And my sin is always before me.

4 Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sight—
That You may be found just when You speak,
And blameless when You judge.

5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
And in sin my mother conceived me.
6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.

7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice.
9 Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.

13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.

14 Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God,
The God of my salvation,
And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.
15 O Lord, open my lips,
And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.

16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You do not delight in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise.

18 Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion;
Build the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
With burnt offering and whole burnt offering;
Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.

First, David is asking God to rip sin out of his life from the roots.

Second, David wants Life back.

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
11 Do not cast me away from Your presence,
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.

Tú eres el hombre. Natán está sosteniendo un espejo frente a la cara de David y David está tan ciego a su propio pecado que no puede ver que está hablando de él.

Entonces David hace la oración más impactante.

Salmo 51:1 Ten piedad de mí, oh Dios, según tu misericordia; De acuerdo con la multitud de Tus tiernas misericordias, borra mis transgresiones.
2 Lávame completamente de mi iniquidad, y límpiame de mi pecado.

3 Porque reconozco mis transgresiones, y mi pecado está siempre delante de mí.

5 He aquí, fui engendrado en iniquidad, y en pecado me concibió mi madre.
6 He aquí, Tú deseas la verdad en las partes internas, y en la parte oculta me harás conocer la sabiduría.

7 Purgame con hisopo, y seré limpio; Lávame, y seré más blanco que la nieve.
8 Hazme oír gozo y alegría, para que los huesos que has roto se regocijen.
9 Esconde tu rostro de mis pecados, y borra todas mis iniquidades.

10 Crea en mí un corazón limpio, oh Dios, y renueva un espíritu firme dentro de mí.
11 No me alejes de tu presencia, y no quites tu Espíritu Santo de mí.

12 Devuélveme el gozo de tu salvación, y sostenme por tu generoso Espíritu.

13 Entonces enseñaré a los transgresores Tus caminos, y los pecadores se convertirán a Ti.

14 Líbrame de la culpa del derramamiento de sangre, oh Dios, el Dios de mi salvación, y mi lengua cantará en voz alta de Tu justicia.
15 Oh Señor, abre mis labios, y mi boca mostrará tu alabanza.

16 Porque no deseas sacrificio, o de lo contrario yo lo daría; No te deleitas en la ofrenda quemada.
17 Los sacrificios de Dios son un espíritu quebrantado, un corazón quebrantado y contrito—Estos, oh Dios, no despreciarás.

18 Haz el bien en tu buena voluntad a Sión; Construye los muros de Jerusalén.

Primero, David le está pidiendo a Dios que arranque el pecado de su vida de las raíces.

Segundo, David quiere recuperar la vida.
