Crash Helmet; Rich. Young Ruler.

 

It should be mandatory to wear a crash helmet in church.

The greeters should be handing them out at the door.

Why?

Because following Jesus is not safe.

 

Sometimes when you follow Jesus you’re going to need a crash helmet to survive the experience!

 

Mark 10:17 And as he was setting out on his journey, a man ran up and knelt before him and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

 

This man had made it in every way but something is missing.

There is something empty on the inside of him.

He wants something called “eternal life.”

 

I must stop for a moment and address something here; what is the meaning of eternal life? Eternal life is not when you go to heaven but when heaven comes into your soul.

 

John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

 

John defined eternal life as knowing the one true God and knowing Jesus Christ. Knowing Him in such a way that it fundamentally changes us.

 

Eternal life is knowing Jesus on a whole different level.

Eternal life is life with God… Right now.

Eternal life is life for God… Right now.

Eternal life is life under God’s care… Right now.

 

Mark 10:18 And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. 19 You know the commandments: ‘Do not murder, Do not commit adultery, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Do not defraud, Honor your father and mother.’” 20 And he said to him, “Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.”

 

Mark 10:21 And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

 

Sell it.

Cash Out.

This is what you lack.

 

Whoever follows Jesus is sacrificing whatever identity they have, or whatever they cling to gain Jesus and to gain eternal life.

 

There’s no such thing as a gay Christian.

There’s no such thing as a black Christian.

There’s no such thing as a white Christian.

There’s no such thing as a Hispanic Christian.

There’s no such thing as a rich Christian.

 

There’s only such thing as a Christian. There are no identifiers to put in front of the word Christian.

 

There’s not a happy ending to this story.

 

Mark 10:22 Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

 

The rich young ruler was devastated.

A great sadness engulfed his heart.

And Jesus just let him walk away.

 

Now we come to a test.

 

How you feel about what Jesus did reveals where you are with Jesus right now.

 

Mark 10:23 And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” 24 And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again, “Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God! 25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” 26 And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?” 27 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” 28 Peter began to say to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you.” 29 Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, 30 who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life. 31 But many who are first will be last, and the last first.”

 

Let’s see what GOD can do!

Casco de choque; Rico. Joven Gobernante.

 

Debería ser obligatorio usar un casco de choque en la iglesia.

Los saludadores deberían entregarlos en la puerta.

¿Por qué?

Porque seguir a Jesús no es seguro.

 

¡A veces, cuando sigues a Jesús, vas a necesitar un casco para sobrevivir a la experiencia!

 

Marcos 10:17 Y mientras emprendía su viaje, un hombre corrió y se arrodilló ante él y le preguntó: “Buen Maestro, ¿qué debo hacer para heredar la vida eterna?”

 

Este hombre lo había logrado en todos los sentidos, pero falta algo.

Hay algo vacío en su interior.

Él quiere algo llamado “vida eterna”.

 

Debo detenerme por un momento y abordar algo aquí; ¿cuál es el significado de la vida eterna? Lavida interior no es cuando vas al cielo, sino cuando el cielo entra en tu alma.

 

Juan 17:3 Y esta es la vida eterna, que te conozcan a ti, el único Dios verdadero, y a Jesucristo a quien has enviado.

 

Juan definió la vida eterna como conocer al único Dios verdadero y conocer a Jesucristo. Conocerlo de tal manera que nos cambie fundamentalmente.

 

La vida eterna es conocer a Jesús en un nivel completamente diferente.

La vida eterna es vida con Dios… Ahora mismo.

La vida eterna es vida para Dios… Ahora mismo.

La vida eterna es la vida bajo el cuidado de Dios… Ahora mismo.

 

Marcos 10:18 Y Jesús le dijo: “¿Por qué me llamas bueno? Nadie es bueno excepto Dios solo. 19 Conoces los mandamientos: ‘No matarás, no cometas adulterio, no robes, no des falso testimonio, no defraudes, honra a tu padre y a tu madre'”. 20 Y él le dijo: «Maestro, todo esto lo he guardado desde mi juventud».

 

Marcos 10:21 Y Jesús, mirándolo, lo amó, y  le dijo: “Te falta una cosa: ve, vende todo lo que tienes y da a los pobres, y tendrás tesoro en el cielo; y ven, sígueme”.

 

Véndelo.

Retiro.

Esto es lo que te falta.

 

Quienquiera que siga a Jesús está sacrificando cualquier identidad que tenga, o lo que sea que se aferre para ganar a Jesús y obtener la vida eterna.

 

No hay tal cosa como un cristiano gay.

No hay tal cosa como un cristiano negro.

No hay tal cosa como un cristiano blanco.

No hay tal cosa como un cristiano hispano.

No hay tal cosa como un cristiano rico.

 

Sólo existe tal cosa como un cristiano. No hay identificadores para poner delante de la palabra cristiano.

 

No hay un final feliz para esta historia.

 

Marcos 10:22 Desanimado por el dicho, se fue triste, porque tenía grandes posesiones.

 

El joven rico estaba devastado.

Una gran tristeza envolvió su corazón.

Y Jesús simplemente lo dejó alejarse.

 

Ahora llegamos a una prueba.

 

Cómo te sientes acerca de lo que Jesús hizo revela dónde estás con Jesús en este momento.

 

Marcos 10:23 Y Jesús miró a su alrededor y dijo a sus discípulos: “¡Qué difícil será para los que tienen riquezas entrar en el reino de Dios!” 24 Y los discípulos se asombraron de sus palabras. Pero Jesús les dijo de nuevo: “Hijos, ¡qué difícil es entrar en el reino de Dios! 25 Es más fácil para un camello pasar por el ojo de una aguja que para una persona rica entrar en el reino de Dios”. 26 Y se asombraron sobremanera, y le dijeron: «Entonces, ¿quién puede ser salvo?» 27 Jesús los miró y dijo: «Para el hombre es imposible, pero no para Dios. Porque todas las cosas son posibles para Dios.” 28 Pedro comenzó a decirle: Mira, lo hemos dejado todo y te hemos seguido. 29 Jesús dijo: “De cierto os digo que no hay nadie que haya dejado casa  o hermanos o hermanas o madre o padre o hijos o tierras, por mi causa y por el evangelio, 30 que no reciba cien veces más ahora en este tiempo, casas y hermanos y hermanas y madres e hijos y tierras,  con persecuciones, y en la era venidera vida eterna. 31 Pero muchos de los primeros serán los últimos, y los últimos primeros”.

 

¡Veamos lo que Dios puede hacer!
