A kingdom that cannot be shaken

 

Every time we face hardships our faith in Jesus is tested. When suffering, we are always asking ourselves the question, “Do I really believe this? Can I stand upon the solid rock of Jesus and his word? Or do I go out seeking something else?”

 

This letter to the Hebrews is filled with encouragement to not drift away or turn back.

 

Hebrews 12:25  See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven.

26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our God is a consuming fire.

 

We have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

Everything except Jesus is a dead end.

 

Suffering will shake loose things that we say we believe in that we really don’t believe.

Suffering will shake loose clichés that we throw around to make ourselves or other people feel better.

 

What suffering does is it takes you to the things that cannot be shaken.

 

Hebrews 12:28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our God is a consuming fire.

 

We have a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

 

Can I tell you about a couple of things that I must lean on, things that cannot be shaken, things about God that this experience has tested?

 

1. Death is real but it doesn’t get the last word.

John 11:22 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.” 23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.

 

One thing that must not be shaken from us or taken from us is how Jesus declared that he is the resurrection and the life and the life that he gives is a life that goes beyond the human body.

 

2. When everything is shaken and I have lost control, I am left with trust.

I have to trust Yahweh to be Yahweh.

I have to trust Jesus to be Jesus.

I have to trust the Holy Spirit to be the Holy Spirit.

 

3. Something else that cannot be shaken is the importance of church family.

Let me just put it this way; when my world was the least that it should have been, you/this church was the most at what it should have been.

 

4. True faith will not be shaken.

Hebrews 11:39 And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40 since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

 

Faith is believing it is so, when it’s not so, because God said so, and so it will be so.

 

When you have faith you not only know what God can do, but you believe he will do it, and even when it looks like nothing is happening, you plow forward anyway because you know something is happening that you can’t see.

 

Faith is seeing it. Faith is working toward it. Faith is believing that God is working even when we don’t see it. Faith is a long walk in the same direction.

Un reino que no puede ser sacudido

 

Cada vez que enfrentamos dificultades, nuestra fe en Jesús es probada. Cuando sufrimos siempre nos hacemos la pregunta: “¿Realmente creo esto? ¿Puedo estar sobre la roca sólida de Jesús y su palabra? ¿O salgo a buscar otra cosa?”

 

Esta carta a los Hebreos está llena de aliento para no alejarse o retroceder.

 

Hebreos 12:25 Mirad que no rechaces al que habla. Porque si no escaparon cuando rechazaron al que les advirtió en la tierra, mucho menos escaparemos nosotros si rechazamos al que avisa desde el cielo.

26 En aquel momento su voz sacudió la tierra, pero ahora ha prometido: «Pero una vez más sacudiré no sólo la tierra, sino también los cielos».  27 Esta frase, “Sin embargo, una vez más”, indica la eliminación de las cosas que son sacudidas, es decir, las cosas que han sido hechas, para que las cosas que no pueden ser sacudidas puedan permanecer.  28 Por lo tanto, seamos agradecidos por recibir un reino que no puede ser sacudido, y así ofrezcamos a Dios adoración aceptable, con reverencia y temor, 29 porque nuestro Dios es un fuego consumidor.

 

Hemos recibido un reino que no puede ser sacudido.

Todo excepto Jesús es un callejón sin salida.

 

El sufrimiento sacudirá las cosas en las que decimos que creemos y que realmente no creemos.

El sufrimiento sacudirá los clichés sueltos que lanzamos para hacernos sentir mejor a nosotros mismos o a otras personas.

 

Lo que hace el sufrimiento es llevarte a las cosas que no pueden ser sacudidas.

 

Hebreos 12:28 Por lo tanto, seamos agradecidos por recibir un reino que no puede ser sacudido, y así ofrezcamos a Dios adoración aceptable, con reverencia y temor, 29 porque nuestro Dios es fuego consumidor.

 

Tenemos un reino que no puede ser sacudido.

 

¿Puedo contarles acerca de un par de cosas en las que debo apoyarme, cosas que no pueden ser sacudidas, cosas acerca de Dios que esta experiencia ha probado?

 

1. La muerte es real, pero no tiene la última palabra.

 

Juan 11:22 Marta le dijo a Jesús: “Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, mi hermano no habría muerto. 22 Pero aun ahora sé que todo lo que pidáis a Dios, Dios os lo dará.  23 Jesús le dijo: «Tu hermano resucitará».  24 Marta le dijo: «Sé que resucitará en la resurrección en el postrer día».  25 Jesús le dijo: «Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí, aunque muera, vivirá, 26  y todo el que vive y cree en mí nunca morirá.

 

Una cosa que no debe ser sacudida de nosotros o quitada de nosotros es cómo Jesús declaró que él es la resurrección y la vida y la vida que da es una vida que va más allá del cuerpo humano.

 

2. Cuando todo se sacude y he perdido el control, me quedo con confianza.

 

Tengo que confiar en Yahvé para ser Yahvé.

Tengo que confiar en que Jesús será Jesús.

Tengo que confiar en que el Espíritu Santo será el Espíritu Santo.

 

 

3. Otra cosa que no puede ser sacudida es la importancia de la familia de la iglesia.

 

Permítanme decirlo de esta manera; Cuando mi mundo era lo menos que debería haber sido, tú/esta iglesia era la más en lo que debería haber sido.

 

4. La verdadera fe no será sacudida.

 

Hebreos 11:39 Y todos estos, aunque elogiados por su fe, no recibieron lo prometido, 40 ya que Dios había provisto algo mejor para nosotros, para que separados de nosotros no fueran perfeccionados.

 

La fe es creer que es así, cuando no es así, porque Dios lo dijo, y así será.

 

Cuando tienes fe, no solo sabes lo que Dios puede hacer, sino que crees que lo hará, e incluso cuando parece que no está sucediendo nada, avanzas de todos modos porque sabes que algo está sucediendo que no puedes ver.

 

La fe lo está viendo. La fe está trabajando hacia ello. La fe es creer que Dios está obrando incluso cuando no lo vemos. La fe es un largo camino en la misma dirección.

 

 

¡Veamos lo que Dios puede hacer!
