Let Us – Come Boldly and Hold Fast the Confession

 

There is a particular phrase in the Bible that gets our attention: It is the two words let us.

 Let us. It means that there is an open invitation- an invitation to believe something, or to receive something, or to do something or to stand for something.

Let us. The invitation has been given but will you give yourself permission to take advantage of what God is offering?

Last week we were invited in Psalm 95 “let us kneel before the Lord our maker.” Today were going to look at two let us statements in the book of Hebrews at the end of the New Testament.

When you read the book of Hebrews you must remember that it was a dangerous world for Christians. The church of Jesus, the followers of Jesus are having it so hard that they are wondering if it’s worth it – if following Jesus is worth the pain and the effort.

They are down.

They are discouraged.

They are hurting.

They are targeted.

And whoever wrote the book of Hebrews gives them a reason to keep going.

Hebrews 4:14 (NKJV) Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

There are two “let us” statements in this verse and here’s the first one; let us hold fast our confession. What are we to do when Jesus is denounced and dismissed? We are to hold fast.

 What is our confession? Our confession is that Jesus is the way – the truth – the life and he is the meaning of life and that he is the central purpose of all things and to know him and experience him is what we were created for.

Let us hold fast the confession of faith.

John 3:31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony. 33 He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true. 34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure. 35 The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Our confession can be summed up in several ways.

1. It can be summed up in John 1:1 that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God in all things that were made were made through him.

2. Our confession can be summed up in John 19:30 John 19:30 “… It is finished.”

3. Our confession can be summed up in John 16:33 where Jesus said that he has overcome the world.

4. Our confession can be summed up in John 15:9 – “as the father has loved me so I have loved you.”

5. Our confession can be summed up in Romans 8:39 that tells us that nothing will separate us from the love of Christ.

6. Our confession can be summed up in the words “even when I don’t see it, he’s working.”

7. Our confession can be summed up in John 6:68 when many people were leaving Jesus because he was too hard to follow in Jesus asked his disciples, “are you going to leave as well?” And they answered “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”

8. Our confession is that this man from heaven is one day going to return and all sin – injustice – evil and cruelty in this world will be met with unrelenting, unremitting, uncompromising and steadfast judgment toward all evil in every form it takes.

Let us hold fast our confession of faith. Let nothing pry out of your hand your confession of Jesus.

Notice what it says in verse 15; that Jesus is most drawn to us when we are weak, when we are tempted, when we are needy, when doubts our creeping in.

And when this happens the invitation is extended Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

 Let us come to the throne.

 At the throne of grace we lift up our empty hands and we get big gifts.

At the throne of grace with lift up our empty hearts and we find mercy.

At the throne of grace we meet Jesus who is bestowing gifts on all who come.

At the throne of grace we get a second chance.

We are to come boldly which means we barge in unrestrained – pouring out our heart – speaking everything on our mind – unembarrassed – with the full expectation that the one who is sitting on the throne will strongly and compassionately and tenderly meet us where we are.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

What holds you back?

Pride because you don’t want to admit your need to God?

Condemnation because you made the mess in the first place?

Embarrassment because you’ve been there so many other times for the same thing?

Self-sufficiency because you already have it under control?

Despair because you have given up?

Unbelief because you don’t think God can do anything?

Exhaustion?

Sin because God has been speaking to you all along and you know is going to bring it up again?

Stubbornness because you don’t need anybody’s help?

 

Let’s see what GOD can do!

Vengamos con valentía y mantengamos firme la confesión

 

 Hay una frase particular en la Biblia que llama nuestra atención: Son las dos palabras que nos permiten.

 Permítanos. Significa que hay una invitación abierta, una invitación a creer algo, o a recibir algo, o a hacer algo o a defender algo.

Permítanos. La invitación ha sido dada, pero ¿te darás permiso para aprovechar lo que Dios está ofreciendo?

La semana pasada fuimos invitados en el Salmo 95 “arrodillémonos ante el Señor nuestro hacedor”. Hoy íbamos a ver dos declaraciones en el libro de Hebreos al final del Nuevo Testamento.

Cuando lees el libro de Hebreos debes recordar que era un mundo peligroso para los cristianos. La iglesia de Jesús, los seguidores de Jesús lo están teniendo tan difícil que se preguntan si vale la pena, si seguir a Jesús vale la pena el dolor y el esfuerzo.

Están abajo.

Están desanimados.

Están sufriendo.

Están en el punto de mira.

Y quienquiera que haya escrito el libro de Hebreos les da una razón para seguir adelante.

Hebreos 4:14 Viendo entonces que tenemos un gran Sumo Sacerdote que ha pasado por los cielos, Jesús el Hijo de Dios, mantengámonos firmes en nuestra confesión. 15 Porque no tenemos un Sumo Sacerdote que no pueda compadecerse de nuestras debilidades, sino que haya sido tentado en todo como nosotros, pero sin pecado. 16 Por tanto, lleguemos confiadamente al trono de la gracia, para obtener misericordia y hallar gracia para ayudar en tiempos de necesidad.

Hay dos declaraciones de “déjanos” en este versículo y aquí está la primera; Retengamos nuestra confesión. ¿Qué debemos hacer cuando Jesús es denunciado y despedido? Debemos mantenernos firmes.

 ¿Cuál es nuestra confesión? Nuestra confesión es que Jesús es el camino, la verdad, la vida y él es el significado de la vida y que él es el propósito central de todas las cosas y conocerlo y experimentarlo es para lo que fuimos creados.

Mantengámonos firmes en la confesión de fe.

Juan 3:31 El que viene de arriba está sobre todo; el que es de la tierra es terrenal y habla de la tierra. El que viene del cielo está por encima de todo. 32 Y lo que ha visto y oído, lo testifica; y nadie recibe su testimonio. 33 El que ha recibido Su testimonio ha certificado que Dios es verdadero. 34 Porque aquel a quien Dios ha enviado habla las palabras de Dios, porque Dios no da el Espíritu por medida. 35 El Padre ama al Hijo, y ha dado todas las cosas en su mano. 36 El que cree en el Hijo tiene vida eterna; y el que no cree en el Hijo no verá la vida, sino que la ira de Dios permanece sobre él”.

Nuestra confesión se puede resumir de varias maneras.

1. Se puede resumir en Juan 1:1 que en el principio era el Verbo, y el Verbo estaba con Dios, y el Verbo era Dios, en todas las cosas que fueron hechas, fueron hechas por medio de él.

2. Nuestra confesión se puede resumir en Juan 19:30 Juan 19:30 “… Consumado es.”

3. Nuestra confesión se puede resumir en Juan 16:33, donde Jesús dijo que ha vencido al mundo.

4. Nuestra confesión se puede resumir en Juan 15: 9 – “como el padre me amó, así yo os he amado a vosotros”.

5. Nuestra confesión se puede resumir en Romanos 8:39 que nos dice que nada nos separará del amor de Cristo.

6. Nuestra confesión se puede resumir en las palabras “incluso cuando no lo veo, él está trabajando”.

7. Nuestra confesión se puede resumir en Juan 6:68 cuando muchas personas estaban dejando a Jesús porque era demasiado difícil de seguir. Jesús preguntó a sus discípulos: “¿Ustedes también se van a ir?” Y ellos respondieron: “Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Tú tienes las palabras de vida eterna”.

8. Nuestra confesión es que este hombre del cielo un día va a regresar y todo pecado – injusticia – mal y crueldad en este mundo se enfrentará con un juicio implacable, incansable, intransigente y firme hacia todo mal en todas las formas que tome.

Mantengámonos firmes en nuestra confesión de fe. Que nada saque de tu mano tu confesión de Jesús.

Hebreos 4:14 Viendo entonces que tenemos un gran Sumo Sacerdote que ha pasado por los cielos, Jesús el Hijo de Dios, mantengámonos firmes en nuestra confesión. 15 Porque no tenemos un Sumo Sacerdote que no pueda compadecerse de nuestras debilidades, sino que haya sido tentado en todo como nosotros, pero sin pecado. 16 Por tanto, lleguemos confiadamente al trono de la gracia, para obtener misericordia y hallar gracia para ayudar en tiempos de necesidad.

Note lo que dice en el versículo 15; que Jesús se siente más atraído hacia nosotros cuando somos débiles, cuando somos tentados, cuando estamos necesitados, cuando dudamos de que nos arrastradiemos.

Y cuando esto sucede la invitación se extiende Por lo tanto, lleguemos confiadamente al trono de la gracia, para que podamos obtener misericordia y encontrar gracia para ayudar en tiempos de necesidad.

Subamos al trono.

En el trono de la gracia levantamos nuestras manos vacías y recibimos grandes regalos.

En el trono de la gracia levanta nuestros corazones vacíos y encontramos misericordia.

En el trono de la gracia nos encontramos con Jesús que está otorgando dones a todos los que vienen.

En el trono de la gracia tenemos una segunda oportunidad.

Debemos venir con valentía, lo que significa que irrumpimos sin restricciones, derramando nuestro corazón, hablando todo lo que tenemos en mente, sin vergüenza, con la plena expectativa de que el que está sentado en el trono nos encontrará con fuerza, compasión y ternura donde estamos.

Por lo tanto, lleguemos confiadamente al trono de la gracia, para que podamos obtener misericordia y encontrar gracia para ayudar en tiempos de necesidad.

¿Qué te detiene?

¿Orgullo porque no quieres admitir tu necesidad ante Dios?

¿Condenación porque hiciste el desastre en primer lugar?

¿Vergüenza porque has estado allí tantas otras veces por lo mismo?

¿Autosuficiencia porque ya la tienes bajo control?

¿Desesperación porque te has rendido?

¿Incredulidad porque no crees que Dios pueda hacer nada?

¿Agotamiento?

¿Pecado porque Dios te ha estado hablando todo el tiempo y sabes que va a sacarlo a colación de nuevo?

¿Terquedad porque no necesitas la ayuda de nadie?

 

¡Veamos lo que Dios puede hacer!
