FIRST – Seek First the Kingdom

Let’s see what God can do

Because this is the first day of the year, I want to talk to you about a very specific challenge. It’s one that we find in the sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 6:25  “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?

26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

The kingdom of Gentiles is living a life of worry- worrying about stuff. Clothing. Food. Status. Paychecks. The size of your yard. Comfort. Security. Am I doing better than my neighbor? How can I get more? How can I give my kid an advantage? God is absent in the details of life and the only one who’s going to look out for me, is me.

But there’s another kingdom. We read it in verse 33; But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

There is a Kingdom we can seek and live under that is different. There is a King we can trust.

This is the challenge that I want to give you for 2023. Seek first… The kingdom of God… And his righteousness…

What is your plan to seek first the kingdom of God? What is your plan to get closer to the king?

What does it mean to seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness?

I am an American, and I live in America. I live, in a sense, in the Kingdom of America. And because I’ve lived in the culture of America, I have most of the traits that identify me as an American.

Well, there is another kingdom. It is called the kingdom of God. And Jesus is telling us that we are to seek it – intentionally go and find it. And we are to live as citizens of this kingdom. And we are to be as immersed in the culture of the kingdom of our king as we are in the culture of the country that we are living in.

To understand the kingdom let’s go to the Lord’s prayer.

We are told of prayer Matthew 6:10 “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on the earth as it’s done in heaven.”

We are told that there is a kingdom. And where there is a kingdom, there is a king. And where is the kingdom? It’s up there! So, what is up there?

God is up there ruling in perfection. What is up there is God’s perfect love, God’s perfect salvation, God’s perfect power, God’s perfect wisdom, and God’s perfect ways.

So, the Lord’s prayer tells us that there is a kingdom up there and we are to call for it to come down here.

We want up there, down here.

Seek first to live under the rule and the reign of God.

So, here is the challenge for 2023; Give God the first five minutes of your day in order that you can seek first his kingdom. Give your spiritual life the first five priority minutes of your day.

I guess the bigger question is this; what is your plan for spiritual formation and to seek the King for 2023? Let me give you one simple Jesus plan:

Matthew 5:5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

• Find a place to go.
• Shut the door and get private.
• In that secret place seek the King who is also your father in heaven.
• And the father will reward you.

Veamos lo que Dios puede hacer

Debido a que este es el primer día del año, quiero hablarles sobre un desafío muy específico. Es uno que encontramos en el sermón del Monte.

Mateo 6:25 “Por tanto, os digo: No os preocupéis por vuestra vida, por lo que comeréis o por lo que beberéis, ni por vuestro cuerpo, por lo que os pondréis. ¿No es la vida más que comida, y el cuerpo más que ropa?

26 Mira las aves del cielo: ni siembran, ni cosechan, ni se reúnen en graneros, y sin embargo, tu Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No eres tú de más valor que ellos?

27 ¿Y quién de ustedes, por estar ansioso, puede agregar una sola hora a su vida? 28 ¿Y por qué estás ansioso por la ropa? Considere los lirios del campo, cómo crecen: ni trabajan ni giran, 29 sin embargo, les digo, incluso Salomón en toda su gloria no estaba vestido como uno de estos.

30 Pero si Dios viste así la hierba del campo, que hoy está viva y mañana es arrojada al horno, ¿ no te vestirá mucho más , oh tú de poca fe?

31 Por tanto, no os preocupéis, diciendo: «¿Qué comeremos?» o «¿Qué beberemos?» o «¿Qué nos pondremos?» 32 Porque los gentiles buscan todas estas cosas, y vuestro Padre celestial sabe que las necesitáis todas. 33 Pero buscad primero el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas os serán añadidas.

El reino de los gentiles está viviendo una vida de preocupación, preocupándose por las cosas. Ropa. Víveres. Estado. Cheques. El tamaño de su patio. Consuelo. Seguridad. ¿Lo estoy haciendo mejor que mi vecino? ¿Cómo puedo obtener más? ¿Cómo puedo darle una ventaja a mi hijo? Dios está ausente en los detalles de la vida y el único que va a cuidar de mí, soy yo.

Pero hay otro reino. Lo leemos en el versículo 33; Pero buscad primero el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas os serán añadidas.

Hay un Reino que podemos buscar y vivir bajo el cual es diferente. Hay un Rey en el que podemos confiar.

Este es el reto que quiero darles para el 2023. Busca primero… El reino de Dios… Y su justicia…

¿Cuál es su plan para buscar primero el reino de Dios? ¿Cuál es tu plan para acercarte al rey?

¿Qué significa buscar primero el reino de Dios y su justicia?

Soy estadounidense y vivo en Estados Unidos. Vivo, en cierto sentido, en el Reino de América. Y debido a que he vivido en la cultura de Estados Unidos, tengo la mayoría de los rasgos que me identifican como estadounidense.

Bueno, hay otro reino. Se llama el reino de Dios. Y Jesús nos está diciendo que debemos buscarlo, ir intencionalmente y encontrarlo. Y debemos vivir como ciudadanos de este reino. Y debemos estar tan inmersos en la cultura del reino de nuestro rey como lo estamos en la cultura del país en el que vivimos.

Para entender el reino vayamos a la oración del Señor.

Se nos dice de la oración Mateo 6:10 “Venga tu reino, hágase tu voluntad en la tierra como se hace en el cielo”.

Se nos dice que hay un reino. Y donde hay un reino, hay un rey. ¿Y dónde está el reino? ¡Está ahí arriba! Entonces, ¿qué hay ahí arriba?

Dios está allá arriba gobernando en perfección. Lo que está ahí arriba es el amor perfecto de Dios, la salvación perfecta de Dios, el poder perfecto de Dios, la sabiduría perfecta de Dios y los caminos perfectos de Dios.

Entonces, la oración del Señor nos dice que hay un reino allá arriba y debemos llamar para que venga aquí.

Queremos allá arriba, aquí abajo.

Busca primero vivir bajo el gobierno y el reino de Dios.

Entonces, aquí está el desafío para 2023; Dale a Dios los primeros cinco minutos de tu día para que puedas buscar primero su reino. Dale a tu vida espiritual los primeros cinco minutos prioritarios de tu día.

Supongo que la pregunta más importante es esta; ¿Cuál es su plan para la formación espiritual y para buscar al Rey para 2023? Déjame darte un plan simple de Jesús:

Mateo 5:5 “Y cuando oráis, no debéis ser como los hipócritas. Porque les encanta pararse y orar en las sinagogas y en las esquinas, para que puedan ser vistos por otros. De cierto os digo que han recibido su recompensa. 6 Pero cuando ores, entra en tu habitación, cierra la puerta y ora a tu Padre que está en secreto. Y tu Padre que ve en secreto te recompensará.

• Encuentra un lugar a donde ir.
• Cierra la puerta y hazte privado.
• En ese lugar secreto buscad al Rey que es también vuestro padre en los cielos.
• Y el padre te recompensará.

¡Veamos lo que Dios puede hacer!
