Seven Letters. Dear Ephesus – A loveless church – Revelation 2:1

Do any of you remember the joy of actually getting real mail?

Paul in Ephesus Acts 19.

It is now 95 A.D. – 43 years after the beginning of this mighty church and John sends the church a letter and has these words to say;

 Revelation 2:1 “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Ephesus. This is the message from the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand, the one who walks among the seven gold lampstands:

And here is the message…

2 “I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. 3 You have patiently suffered for me without quitting……6 But this is in your favor: You hate the evil deeds of the Nicolaitans, just as I do.

You just might say this church was dynamic, dedicated, determined, disciplined and discerning.

4 “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first!

Once they asked Jesus, “what is the greatest commandment – boil it down to one thing.” Matthew 22:37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

What Jesus boiled everything down to was; love. He didn’t say the greatest command was to obey, or study but what God desired from you was love.

The remedy…

Revelation 2:5 (ESV) Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.

John calls this church to do three things;

1. Remember
2. Repent
3.  Return

Siete cartas. Querido Éfeso – Una iglesia sin amor – Apocalipsis 2:1

¿Alguno de ustedes recuerda la alegría de recibir correo real?

Pablo en Éfeso Hechos 19.

Ahora es el año 95 d.C. – 43 años después del comienzo de esta poderosa iglesia y Juan envía a la iglesia una carta y tiene estas palabras que decir;

 Apocalipsis 2:1 “Escribe esta carta al ángel de la iglesia en Éfeso. Este es el mensaje del que sostiene las siete estrellas en su mano derecha, el que camina entre los siete candelabros de oro:

Y aquí está el mensaje…

2 “Sé todas las cosas que haces. He visto su arduo trabajo y su paciente resistencia. Sé que no toleras a las personas malvadas. Usted ha examinado las afirmaciones de aquellos que dicen que son apóstoles pero no lo son. Has descubierto que son mentirosos. 3 Has sufrido pacientemente por mí sin renunciar……6 Pero esto está a tu favor: Odias las malas acciones de los nicolaítas, al igual que yo.

Se podría decir que esta iglesia era dinámica, dedicada, decidida, disciplinada y discerniente.

4 »Pero tengo esta queja contra ti. ¡No me aman ni a mí ni a los demás como lo hicieron al principio!

Una vez le preguntaron a Jesús, “cuál es el mandamiento más grande, reducirlo a una cosa”. Mateo 22:37 Jesús respondió: “‘Debes amar al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, toda tu alma y toda tu mente’38 Este es el primer y más grande mandamiento. 39 Un segundo es igualmente importante: ‘Ama a tu prójimo como a ti mismo’. 40 Toda la ley y todas las exigencias de los profetas se basan en estos dos mandamientos”.

A lo que Jesús redujo todo fue; amar. Él no dijo que el mandamiento más grande era obedecer o estudiar, pero lo que Dios deseaba de ti era amor.

El remedio…

Apocalipsis 2:5 (ESV) Recuerda, pues, de dónde has caído; arrepiéntete y haz las obras que hiciste al principio. Si no, vendré a ti y quitaré tu candelabro de su lugar, a menos que te arrepientas.

Juan llama a esta iglesia a hacer tres cosas;

1. Recordar
2. Arrepentirse
3.  Devolución

¡Veamos qué puede hacer DIOS!
