The Real Real – lead, follow or find a new way…Hesitant Heroes

God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called. And every one of us who follow Jesus are called to be about our father’s business.

 It was Jesus who once said; Matthew 9:37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

4 things from the life of a humble hero; Barnabas

1. Barnabas gave of himself financially to the story God was writing.

Acts 4:33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. 36 Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, 37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

2. Barnabas gave of himself personally to the story God was writing.

Acts 9:26 When Saul arrived in Jerusalem, he tried to meet with the believers, but they were all afraid of him. They did not believe he had truly become a believer! 27 Then Barnabas brought him to the apostles and told them how Saul had seen the Lord on the way to Damascus and how the Lord had spoken to Saul. He also told them that Saul had preached boldly in the name of Jesus in Damascus.

28 So Saul stayed with the apostles and went all around Jerusalem with them, preaching boldly in the name of the Lord.

3. Barnabas gave of himself by serving in the story God was writing.

Acts 11:19 Meanwhile, the believers who had been scattered during the persecution after Stephen’s death traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch of Syria. They preached the word of God, but only to Jews. 20 However, some of the believers who went to Antioch from Cyprus and Cyrene began preaching to the Gentiles about the Lord Jesus. 21 The power of the Lord was with them, and a large number of these Gentiles believed and turned to the Lord.

22 When the church at Jerusalem heard what had happened, they sent Barnabas to Antioch. 23 When he arrived and saw this evidence of God’s blessing, he was filled with joy, and he encouraged the believers to stay true to the Lord. 24 Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord.

4. Barnabas gave of himself by developing others in the story that God was writing.

Acts 11:25 Then Barnabas went on to Tarsus to look for Saul. 26 When he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. Both of them stayed there with the church for a full year, teaching large crowds of people. (It was at Antioch that the believers were first called Christians.)

Dios no llama a los equipados, equipa a los llamados.  Y cada uno de nosotros que seguimos a Jesús estamos llamados a ocuparnos de los asuntos de nuestro padre.

 Fue Jesús quien una vez dijo; Mateo 9:37 Entonces dijo a sus discípulos: “La cosecha es abundante, pero los obreros son pocos;  38, por tanto, orad fervientemente al Señor de la mies para que envíe obreros a su mies.”

4 cosas de la vida de un humilde héroe; Barnabas

1. Bernabé entregó de sí mismo financieramente a la historia que Dios estaba escribiendo.

Hechos 4:33 Y con gran poder los apóstoles estaban dando su testimonio de la resurrección del Señor Jesús, y una gran gracia estaba sobre todos ellos.  34 No había una persona necesitada entre ellos, porque tantos como eran dueños de tierras o casas las vendieron y trajeron el producto de lo que se vendió 35 y lo pusieron a los pies de los apóstoles, y se distribuyó a cada uno como cualquiera tuviera necesidad.  36 Así, José, que también fue llamado por los apóstoles Bernabé (que significa hijo de aliento), un levita, nativo de Chipre, 37 vendió un campo que le pertenecía y trajo el dinero y lo puso a los pies de los apóstoles.

2. Bernabé entregó personalmente a la historia que Dios estaba escribiendo.

Hechos 9:26 Cuando Saulo llegó a Jerusalén, trató de reunirse con los creyentes, pero todos le tenían miedo.  ¡No creían que realmente se hubiera convertido en un creyente! 27 Entonces Bernabé lo llevó a los apóstoles y les contó cómo Saulo había visto al Señor en el camino a Damasco y cómo el Señor le había hablado a Saulo.  También les dijo que Saulo había predicado audazmente en el nombre de Jesús en Damasco.

28 Así que Saulo se quedó con los apóstoles y recorrió Jerusalén con ellos, predicando audazmente en el nombre del Señor.

3. Bernabé dio de sí mismo sirviendo en la historia que Dios estaba escribiendo.

Hechos 11:19 Mientras tanto, los creyentes que habían sido dispersados durante la persecución después de la muerte de Esteban viajaron hasta Fenicia, Chipre y Antioquía de Siria.  Predicaban la palabra de Dios, pero sólo a los judíos. 20 Sin embargo, algunos de los creyentes que fueron a Antioquía desde Chipre y Cirene comenzaron a predicar a los gentiles acerca del Señor Jesús.  21 El poder del Señor estaba con ellos, y un gran número de estos gentiles creyeron y se volvieron al Señor.

22 Cuando la iglesia de Jerusalén oyó lo que había sucedido, enviaron a Bernabé a Antioquía.  23 Cuando llegó y vio esta evidencia de la bendición de Dios, se llenó de gozo y alentó a los creyentes a permanecer fieles al Señor.  24 Bernabé era un hombre bueno, lleno del Espíritu Santo y fuerte en la fe.  Y muchas personas fueron llevadas al Señor.

4. Bernabé dio de sí mismo al desarrollar a otros en la historia que Dios estaba escribiendo.

Hechos 11:25 Entonces Bernabé fue a Tarso para buscar a Saúl.  26 Cuando lo encontró, lo trajo de vuelta a Antioquía. Ambos permanecieron allí con la iglesia durante un año completo, enseñando a grandes multitudes de personas. (Fue en Antioquía donde los creyentes  primero fueron llamados cristianos).)
