The Name – Jesus

God has a name and his name isn’t God.

Exodus 3:13 Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’ 15… This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.

What is God’s name?

“I am that I am.” Or, “I am who I am.”

We use the name Yahweh.

Our God is the great I am – he is perfectly God right now – he will always be perfectly God – there will never be a time he is not perfectly God – and everything that comes from God will always be perfect.

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord (Yahweh) is the beginning of knowledge…

Psalm 20:7 Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

 Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

When we open the pages of the New Testament we are introduced to Yahweh in the flesh. And Yahweh in the flesh is going to be given a special name.

Matthew 1:20 “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. 21 And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

Jesus.

Let’s read some of the foundational truths that will make you love the name of Jesus all the more.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

 18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.

Jesus is here to shine in the darkness.

And he’s here to remove the darkness.

And he’s here to give you eternal life.

He’s here to destroy the works of the devil.

And here is another pertinent passage of Scripture that points to Jesus and why the power of the name of Jesus is so important.

 John 3:31 He who comes from above is above all. He who is of the earth belongs to the earth and speaks in an earthly way. He who comes from heaven is above all. 32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony. 33 Whoever receives his testimony sets his seal to this, that God is true. 34 For he whom God has sent utters the words of God, for he gives the Spirit without measure. 35 The Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand. 36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

When Jesus stepped foot on this earth he came from above.

The very name of Jesus captures all of the grace of Jesus – all the power of Jesus – all the glory of Jesus – all the faithfulness of Jesus – all the love of Jesus –

Jesus sent out his disciples as his representatives and when they came back here’s what they said;

 Luke 10:17 When the seventy-two disciples returned, they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!”

Jesus invited us to pray in his name.

John 14:12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!

Acts 4:12 There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

Acts 2:38 Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

When we are baptized we are immersed in the name of not just the father, not just the Holy Spirit, but in the name of Jesus

Acts 4:29 And now, Lord…you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”

Paul talks about the life-changing power of the name of Jesus…

1 Corinthians 6:9 Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Phil. 2:9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names,10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

El Nombre – Jesús

Dios tiene un nombre y su nombre no es Dios.

Éxodo 3:13 Entonces Moisés le dijo a Dios: “Si vengo al pueblo de Israel y les digo: ‘El Dios de tus padres me ha enviado a ti’, y me preguntan: ‘¿Cuál es su nombre?’, ¿qué les diré?” 14 Dios le dijo a Moisés: “Yo soy quien soy”. Y él dijo: “Dile esto al pueblo de Israel: ‘Yo soy me ha enviado a ti’. 15… Este es mi nombre para siempre, y por lo tanto debo ser recordado a través de todas las generaciones.

¿Cuál es el nombre de Dios?

“Yo soy lo que soy”. O, “Yo soy quien soy”.

Usamos el nombre de Yahweh.

Nuestro Dios es el gran yo soy – él es perfectamente Dios en este momento – siempre será perfectamente Dios – nunca habrá un momento en que no sea perfectamente Dios – y todo lo que viene de Dios siempre será perfecto.

Proverbios 1:7 El temor del Señor (Yahvé) es el principio del conocimiento…

Salmo 20:7 Algunos confían en carros y otros en caballos, pero confiamos en el nombre del Señor nuestro Dios.

Proverbios 18:10 El nombre del Señor es una torre fuerte; el hombre justo corre hacia ella y está a salvo.

Efesios 6:10 Finalmente, sed fuertes en el Señor y en la fuerza de su poder.

Cuando abrimos las páginas del Nuevo Testamento, se nos presenta a Yahvé en la carne.  Y a Yahvé en la carne se le va a dar un nombre especial.

Mateo 1:20 “José, hijo de David”, dijo el ángel, “no tengas miedo de tomar a María como tu esposa.  Porque el niño dentro de ella fue concebido por el Espíritu Santo. 21 Y ella tendrá un hijo, y tú lo llamarás Jesús, porque él salvará a su pueblo de sus pecados.”

Jesús.

Leamos algunas de las verdades fundamentales que te harán amar aún más el nombre de Jesús.

Juan 1:1 En el principio era el Verbo, y el Verbo estaba con Dios, y el Verbo era Dios.  2 Él estaba en el principio con Dios. 3 Todas las cosas fueron hechas por medio de él, y sin él no se  hizo nada de lo que se hizo.  4 En él estaba la vida, y la vida era la luz de los hombres. 5 La luz brilla en las tinieblas, y las tinieblas no la han vencido.

18 Nadie ha visto nunca a Dios; el único Dios, que está al lado del Padre, lo ha dado a conocer.

Jesús está aquí para brillar en las tinieblas.

Y él está aquí para eliminar la oscuridad.

Y él está aquí para darte la vida eterna.

Él está aquí para destruir las obras del diablo.

Y aquí hay otro pasaje pertinente de las Escrituras que señala a Jesús y por qué el poder del nombre de Jesús es tan importante.

Juan 3:31 El que viene de arriba está por encima de todo.  El que es de la tierra pertenece a la tierra y habla de una manera terrenal. El que viene del cielo está por encima de todo.  32 Él da testimonio de lo que ha visto y oído, pero nadie recibe su testimonio. 33 Quien recibe su testimonio pone su sello a esto, que Dios es verdadero.  34 Porque el que Dios ha enviado pronuncia las palabras de Dios, porque da el Espíritu sin medida. 35 El Padre ama al Hijo y ha dado todas las cosas en su mano. 36 El que cree en el Hijo tiene vida eterna; el que no obedece al Hijo no verá la vida, sino que la ira de Dios permanece sobre él.

Cuando Jesús pisó esta tierra vino de arriba.

El mismo nombre de Jesús captura toda la gracia de Jesús – todo el poder de Jesús – toda la gloria de Jesús – toda la fidelidad de Jesús – todo el amor de Jesús –

Jesús envió a sus discípulos como sus representantes y cuando regresaron esto es lo que dijeron;

Lucas 10:17 Cuando los setenta y dos discípulos regresaron, le informaron con alegría: “¡Señor, los demonios nos obedecen cuando usamos tu nombre!”

Jesús nos invitó a orar en su nombre.

Juan 14:12 “Os digo la verdad, cualquiera que crea en mí hará las mismas obras que yo he hecho, y obras aún mayores, porque voy a estar con el Padre. 13 Puedes pedir cualquier cosa en mi nombre, y yo lo haré, para que el Hijo pueda dar gloria al Padre. 14 Sí, pídeme cualquier cosa en mi nombre, ¡y lo haré!

Hechos 4:12 ¡No hay salvación en nadie más!  Dios no ha dado ningún otro nombre bajo el cielo por el cual debamos ser salvos”.

Hechos 2:38 Pedro respondió: “Cada uno de ustedes debe arrepentirse de sus pecados y volverse a Dios, y ser bautizado en el nombre de Jesucristo para el perdón de sus pecados. Entonces recibirás el don del Espíritu Santo.

Cuando somos bautizados estamos inmersos en el nombre no sólo del padre, no sólo del Espíritu Santo, sino en el nombre de Jesús.

Hechos 4:29 Y ahora, Señor… extiendes tu mano para sanar, y las señales y maravillas se realizan a través del nombre de tu santo siervo Jesús”.

Pablo habla del poder transformador del nombre de Jesús…

1 Corintios 6:9 No os engañéis a vosotros mismos.  Aquellos que se entregan al pecado sexual, o que adoran ídolos, o cometen adulterio, o son prostitutas masculinas, o practican la homosexualidad, 10 o son ladrones, o personas codiciosas, o borrachos, o son abusivos, o engañan a las personas, ninguno de estos heredará el Reino de Dios. 11 Algunos de ustedes alguna vez fueron así.  Pero fuiste limpiado; fuiste hecho santo; fuiste hecho justo con Dios al invocar el nombre del Señor Jesucristo y por el Espíritu de nuestro Dios.

Filipenses 2:9 Por lo tanto, Dios lo elevó al lugar de más alto honor y le dio el nombre por encima de todos los demás nombres,10 para que en el nombre de Jesús toda rodilla se incline, en el cielo y en la tierra y debajo de la tierra, 11 y toda lengua declaren que Jesucristo es el Señor, para la gloria de Dios el Padre.

¡Veamos qué puede hacer DIOS!
