2022 Easter

This morning I want to take you to Peter’s first sermon. He begins with the bad news. This is bad news that they all knew about because they were there to see it.

 Acts 2:22 (NIV) “Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. ²³ This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.

The bad news is that they had killed Jesus.

But Peter wasn’t finished with his sermon. The next two words were crucial;

Acts 2:24 But God…

But means the story wasn’t over.

All through the Bible we read about these “but God” moments.

Genesis 50:20
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.

1 Samuel 23:14
David stayed in the desert strongholds and in the hills of the Desert of Ziph. Day after day Saul searched for him, but God did not give David into his hands.

Psalm 49:15
But God will redeem my life from the grave; he will surely take me to himself.

Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Isaiah 40:8
The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.

Jonah 2:6
To the roots of the mountains I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God.

Matthew 19:26
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 Corinthians 1:27
But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.

Now the biggest “but God” moment of all.

Acts 2:24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him… ³² This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.

On Easter Sunday we celebrate that the Jesus of the Bible that we so much love, and adore, and hang on his every words is alive.

Peter finished his little sermon and you know what happened next?

Acts 2:37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

³⁸ Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

They wanted to move from information to encounter. They wanted to know what to do in order to get to know and experience this Jesus.

Let’s see what GOD can do!

Esta mañana quiero llevarlos al primer sermón de Pedro. Comienza con las malas noticias. Esta es una mala noticia que todos conocían porque estaban allí para verla.

Hechos 2:22 (NVI) “Compañeros israelitas, escuchen esto: Jesús de Nazaret fue un hombre acreditado por Dios ante ustedes por milagros, maravillas y señales, que Dios hizo entre ustedes a través de él, como ustedes mismos saben. ²³ Este hombre te fue entregado por el plan deliberado y el conocimiento previo de Dios; y tú, con la ayuda de hombres malvados, lo mataste clavándolo en la cruz.

La mala noticia es que habían matado a Jesús.

Pero Pedro no había terminado con su sermón. Las siguientes dos palabras fueron cruciales;

Hechos 2:24 Pero Dios…

Pero significa que la historia no había terminado.

A lo largo de la Biblia leemos acerca de estos momentos “pero Dios”.

Génesis 50:
20Tienes la intención de hacerme daño, pero Dios quiso que para bien lograr lo que ahora se está haciendo, salvar muchas vidas.

1 Samuel 23:
14David se quedó en las fortalezas del desierto y en las colinas del desierto de Ziph. Día tras día Saulo lo buscó, pero Dios no le dio a David en sus manos.

Salmo 49:
15Pero Dios redimirá mi vida de la tumba; seguramente me llevará a sí mismo.

Salmo 73:
26Mi carne y mi corazón pueden fallar, pero Dios es la fuerza de mi corazón y mi porción para siempre.

Isaías 40:
8La hierba se marchita y las flores caen, pero la palabra de nuestro Dios permanece para siempre.

Jonás 2:
6A las raíces de las montañas me hundí; la tierra debajo me encerró para siempre. Pero tú trajiste mi vida del pozo, oh SEÑOR mi Dios.

Mateo 19:
26Jesús los miró y dijo: “Con el hombre esto es imposible, pero con Dios todas las cosas son posibles.

Romanos 5:
8Pero Dios demuestra su propio amor por nosotros en esto: Mientras todavía éramos pecadores, Cristo murió por nosotros.

Romanos 6:23Porque
la paga del pecado es muerte, pero el don de Dios es la vida eterna en Cristo Jesús nuestro Señor.

1 Corintios 1:
27Pero Dios escogió las cosas necias del mundo para avergonzar a los sabios; Dios escogió las cosas débiles del mundo para avergonzar a los fuertes.

Ahora el momento más grande de “pero Dios” de todos.

Hechos 2:24 Pero Dios lo resucitó de entre los muertos, liberándolo de la agonía de la muerte, porque era imposible que la muerte se aferrara a él… ³² Este Jesús dios resucitó, y de eso todos somos testigos.

El Domingo de Pascua celebramos que el Jesús de la Biblia que tanto amamos, adoramos y colgamos de cada una de sus palabras está vivo.

Pedro terminó su pequeño sermón y ¿sabes lo que sucedió después?

Hechos 2:37 Cuando el pueblo oyó esto, fue cortado en el corazón y dijo a Pedro y a los otros apóstoles: “Hermanos, ¿qué haremos?”

³⁸ Pedro respondió: “Arrepentíos y bautízaos, cada uno de vosotros, en el nombre de Jesucristo para el perdón de vuestros pecados. Y recibirás el don del Espíritu Santo. ³⁹ La promesa es para vosotros y vuestros hijos y para todos los que están lejos, por todos los que el Señor nuestro Dios llamará.”

Querían pasar de la información al encuentro. Querían saber qué hacer para conocer y experimentar a este Jesús.

¡Veamos qué puede hacer DIOS!
